Heya, I'm looking for a Project+Boot drive and I'm between these 2:

SSD Crucial MX500 M.2 2280 1TB
Read: 560 MB/s
Write: 510 MB/s

vs
samsung ssd 970 evo pcie nvme m.2 1t
Read: up to 3.400 MB/s
Write: up to 2.500 MB/s

Will Davinci benefit from samsung high speeds during any point in rending, playback, etc?
Thanks!

Get the nvme drive. i have the older 960 evo and it's just so much faster than the sata ssd.

thanks! I'll get the NVME for sure, but my question is that Davinci actually uses the extreme speeds of the Samsung vs the Crucial? Most forums are HDD vs SSD vs NVME but no NVMe vs NVME. Cheers!

At 560 MB/s the Crutial is not using a pcie interface, it's using sata but in an m.2 form factor. The Samsung will show a noticeable improvement as your boot drive.

if your footage and your cachefiles are on the NVME = YES

even if just the cache directory is on it, he should see a performance improvement.
