Why do I have to convert to REC709?

PostSun Apr 07, 2019 9:09 am

Please can anyone explain why I keep seeing tutorials talking about rec709 conversion luts and that you have to convert your imported footage to rec709 before grading or exporting ?

I ask this as I obviously know very little and because I can view my footage directly from my Panasonic HC-x1 on my television or monitors and that’s why the confusion as to why I am supposed to convert in Resolve or any other nle?

With your Pana CamCorder, you are recording in Rec709, unless you choose to record in film log (not sure this ca era can even do this), you do not need to convert, as you already have a Rec709 recording.

Denny, that’s what I thought, it’s only if you shoot one of the log varieties that conversion is necessary,
That fact never seems to be mentioned.
Thank you for the answer.
