The Intensity Extreme is a legacy product.

But install the latest Desktop Video and follow the instructions in the manual to enable the software on your Mac (If you run Sierra or higher.. #Security policy Mac)

After a reboot it will likely prompt you for a firmware update. And after that i should work.

Hello everyone,

I have also a BMD Intensity Extreme that i wish to connect to my Macbook Pro 2018 and my Sony A7 to stream live moments.
I can't seem to find a cable that connects directly the BMD to the Mac. I came accross an adaptator (Thunderbolt to HDMI). Would this be an option and would it work?
It would look like this:
BMD-> Adaptator Thunderbolt to HDMI -> HDMI cable _> Adaptator HDMI to USB C-> Mac

Does it make sense? If anyone has an other option, please, feel free to share.

Thanks in advance for you assistance,
Daoud

You can eliminate the HMDI bits in this chain. Apple (and others) sell a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) (this is the MacBook end) to Thunderbolt 2 dongle adaptor. You’ll then just need a regular Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable to connect the adaptor to the Intensity Extreme.

BMD -> Thunderbolt-Thunderbolt cable -> Thunderbolt-USB-C Adpator -> Mac

If you’re streaming you will need to use Wirecast or OBS for this solution. Streaming direct via the browser won’t work as the Thunderbolt input video won’t be recognised. The browser will only recognise video inputs that present as webcams (like the ATEM Mini and Web Presenter do).

As an aside the HDMI to USB-C adaptor is likely to be an output adaptor only, and won’t take an incoming video signal.

Hi Scott,

I got it all wired up as you advised me to do so.
I'm using OBS and it's not working. I'm using a SONY ALPHA7.

I have the following message showing:
LiveKey cannot run
Blackmagic Livekey requires DeckLink hardware installed.

Can you help me out on this one again please?

Thank you in advance,
Daoud

Hi there Daoud,

I’m actually “Neil” — the ‘scot’ in my username refers to my country! :D

Can you download the “Desktop Video” software, and install it? That’s needed so that your computer knows about the BlackMagic device. If you need to use LiveKey then that won’t work with the Extreme I think, but LiveKey isn’t required to run OBS.

What i understand of the story, beaman2: the Thunderbold connection should match to the Thunderbold connection (converting adapter?) on the PC/Laptop, don't know how the different versions of Thunderbolt (2 - 3) "will fit in", further, what's on the input of the Extreme should match in resolution set in that video source, as well as in the same settings for the Extreme "driver"

Hello Neil and not Scott :-)

I was away for a week. Thanks a lot for taking the time to develop what could be the issue.
I'll follow the steps and will get back to you to let you if it worked.
Cheers,
Daoud
