Getting older Blackmagic capture/playback device working

PostMon Jun 10, 2019 2:26 pm

I bought a Blackmagic Design Intensity Extreme HDMI and Analog Capture device about 5 years ago:

I'm on a Mac. I uninstalled the old Blackmagic software that appeared in the "preferences pane" and installed the latest "Blackmagic Desktop Video" software and rebooted the computer.

I have my camcorder HDMI out going to the HDMI in of the Blackmagic device and the device is connected to my Mac via Thunderbolt. However, the "Desktop Video Setup" software says "No Desktop Video Device Detected, please check that your product is connected via Thunderbolt, USB3, or PCIe and is powered on."

Is there any additional software I need?

I figured this out. I was using an old display port cable instead of a Thunderbolt cable.
