Damaged BMPCC Display

PostTue Jan 16, 2018 8:19 pm

I was out a couple of weeks ago with my BMPCC. It was a bit cold (15 deg F) and noticed the display now has some narrow-vertical streaks on the left side. It started as a small mark in the upper left corner but by the end of the day it went all the way to the bottom. It almost looks like it was made by a finger nail scrapping it. Does anyone know what caused this and how to remove it? It doesn't effect the video.

The attached photo shows 2 images- top image is after camera is on, and the lower image was taken as the camera booted up and the display is still dark. No mark is visible when the camera is off.

Thanks,

Tom

1. I had a similar problem with Lenovo Thinkpad X-61 Tablet bought on Ebay. There was a similar vertical spot on it's screen. I was able to remove the most part of it with not-so-gentle massage of the screen (This specific model is quite hard since it uses a stylus). Since it was impossible to remove it all I have replaced the screen. You can try it on BMPCC but remember that it's screen is much weaker that Lenovo's. You do it on your own risk, I could not be held responsible.

2. There was a thread in this forum about replacement of BMPCC screen and a specific model that could be bought on Aliexpress.

3. The screws that keep BMPCC together are under the front rubber. You lose all warranty.

Amazing, I just took it our of the case this morning to try rubbing it out. I rubbed it a bit with my thumb, turned it on and guess what? No more mark!!! Thanks for the tip.

Yep, I had the same exact thing 2 weeks ago when I took my Pocket out in the cold weather. Rubbing can sometimes get it out, but half of mine are still there.

The Pocket is not a cold-weather camera.

Sorry about eating your time on that. Looks like BMD has the market cornered on this connector.
