If you are referring to the SLR Magic APO Cine Prime lenses, then they work great. John Bradley and Rick Lang both use them quite a lot on the Ursa Mini 4.16 and John has used them on all the Ursa Mini Cameras, including the UM Pro V2 Camera. All you need is the PL mount on the camera, and you are good to go. These are excellent lenses, I am considering the 32mm lens to use on my camera.

The Hyperprime series are the smaller MFT mount Cine lens series SLR M came out with first, and these will not work on the Ursa Mini Camera, but should work fine on the new Pocket 4K Camera.

SLR MAGIC APO HYPER PRIMES URSA MINI PRO experience?

PostThu Apr 18, 2019 1:36 am

Vi-Dan, there is a long thread on this forum about the SLR Magic T2.1 APO primes. The hyperprimes are faster and cheaper, quite different. Peruse that thread and let us know if you have specific questions. The latest lens is the 32mm APO which may be their best lens and has a normal angle of view on a Super35 camera like the URSA Mini 4.6K/Pro cameras.

I don’t know if you are going to be tempted to also pickup the SLR Magic 1.33x-65 Anamorphot adapter that screws on the 32, 50, 85mm primes, 82mm thread. That adapter is not intended to be used on focal lengths less than 30mm so that means the SLR Magic 25mm will not be supported by the Aanamorphot. Highly recommend the excellent SLR Magic lens support for the Anamorphot as it’s quite heavy on the front end of the reasonably large APO primes.

Enjoy.

So, the 2X Anamorphot will not screw on natively on the lens? I have the one with a 62mm on the taking side and 72 on the filter side.

I don’t use that, but if it has rear threads then it must screw-on.

Hi Rick!!

oh yaaa i checked the previous post about the Apo lenses!
thanks for that!!!

hmm but the hyperprimes only come with mft mount right?
I am looking for Pl mount lenses, just saw that those apo primes are pretty cheap and nice vintage look! and because of their same weight , they are perfect for gimbal.

But company is quite young and read already some issues with the houses.
Did u experience any issues?

- have you tried to mount them on a pl mount cam ?
any play while focusing?

- how is the focus in general?
- 300° seems a long way :D and smooth or harder to move the focus?

thank you very much for your reply!!

All the current lenses and mounts.

I sent the original 50mm and 85mm back for some adjustment as the witness marks didn’t line up on both sides of the lens. The 50mm has been updated to match the other lenses housing so you can’t buy the original 50mm. The 32mm is so sweet.

The T2.1 APO primes are on my USRA Mini 4.6K PL mount camera.

any play while focusing?

On occasion there might have been but minor. I think you learn to work with it so it does move smoothly and with good resistance but the lenses aren’t 100% identical. See the next answer...

The focus of my APO primes are now always performed by the PD Movie PDL-F-V2 thumb controller so focus is very smooth and movement very steady. The PD-MX motors do the work and the controller keeps everything locked in place. Every change of focus has a 300° movement which is an easy movement of your thumb as opposed to hand-cranking a manual follow focus or gear. Never really knew what I was missing until I was forced to go that route with the use of the 1.33x-65 Anamorphot, but I’m glad I did.

thank you very much for your reply!!

Hi Vi-Dan,

I've used the APO's extensively with the UMP.

You can see some tests I did a while ago here. https://johnbrawley.wordpress.com/2018/ ... uick-test/

These are great value lenses and have a really nice look that's much nicer and more pretty in my view than a lot of the other lenses you see in this price range.

There have been some issues I've seen with some users that experience a focus shift with certain remote focus motors but I haven't seen that personally with the three sets of APO's I have. I believe that SLR Magic have been accepting lenses back for adjustment when this has happened.

Other than that I've not really seen many issues and mine have been working great. I really like them a lot.
