BMPCC 6K - 6.6 update => BRAW in 4K?

Hi there,

I'm new to the BMPCC 6K (and to the family of these types of cameras).
I can't seem to find the 4K DCI BRAW options available after updating to 6.6.
Is the 4K BRAW option only available for BMPCC 4K?

Thanks

Thanks Ricardo,

I realize that. I shoot most of my stuff in 4K. I’m also in the process of switching to Resolve.
As BRAW 6K is native to Resolve - and seems to be running on it quite nicely - I was curious to
know why BMD have opted not to add it for 6K users as well.

It would be a welcomed addition.

Yes, the 4K BRaw option is only available on the Pocket 4K Camera. ;)

I discovered this yesterday as well. I was attempting a 3 camera setup to shoot different angles at the same time to speed up production. I used 2P4K and 1 P6K. The fact that all of the cameras couldn't be easily set up on the same resolution was frustrating and took more than a desired amount of time/thought figuring out which resolution each camera should be on for the editors timeline... the two 4k were on 4kdci and the 6k was on 5k I think. Somewhat frustrating

If you want to match shots, resolution and IQ, you need matching cameras. ;)

True Denny, but I took a wild guess that maybe the new camera from the same manufacturer would have the same options on the newer higher resolution camera (P6K) that are on the previous less resolution model. Silly me

Because if you wanted to record in 4K BRAW on the P6K, you would be cropping the image. You cannot have raw and and super sample it. Then its not raw. So you would need to crop the image sensor to get it to 4K. That means the record windows would be less than MFT size.

Thanks why.

Hi there,

Thank you all for your comments.

Remains to be seen if BMD can provide us 6K folks a 4K braw to dabble with.

Until next time. jb

Yes, no advantage to shooting 4K Raw on the Pocket 6K, only disadvantages.
I think the Pocket 4K is the best bang for the buck in 4K acquisitions.
Cheers

Although I didn’t have the option of buying the BMPCC6K because I bought the BMPCC4K before it was released, with the latest firmware update for the BMPCC4K, if I was buying today, I’d still go with the BMPCC4K. Neither is perfect, but the BMPCC4K is a great set of quality features at a ridiculous price point.

Depends on what lenses you have. I was never interested in the 4K and ignored that. But immediately went for the 6K because of the s35 size and because I have EF lenses.
