Is a Black Magic Production Camera/Workflow for me?

PostWed Jul 24, 2013 5:07 pm

Hi I'm very interested in purchasing a BMPC and using DaVinci Resolve this upcoming fall and wanted to see if it would be ideal for video crew's needs.

We currently shoot weddings and small ads, but are also looking into shooting a few small short movies.

We currently shoot on a 5d Mark 3 and t3i, and are looking into upgrading the t3i.

My current editing system is a custom ADK laptop, though I also have a first generation Mac Pro at home:
Processor-Intel - Core i7 3930K 3.2GHz 6 core 12meg cache
Memory-16Gig (4x4gig) 1600 11-11-11-28 Sodimm, Samsung Chips, Lifetime Warranty
Graphics Card- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770MX w/3GB GDDR5

Will the BMPC camera be overkill for what I am doing? Should I just get another 5d Mark 3 and look into shooting raw if I need the increased dynamic range? Also, is my editing system capable or even practical for editing 4k?

Thanks!
Edward

That's where i stopped reading. If you _need_ the camera in fall and haven't preordered one a few months ago you should reconsider. Both new cameras are not shipping yet, and once they start it might take months until all preorders are fullfilled.
