SLR Magic 12mm for Pocket

PostFri Aug 09, 2013 5:32 pm

I'm on the Noktor website just about ready to order an SLR Magic Hyperprime Cine 12mm T1.6.

I have the option between the one listed above at 549$, or the Cine 12mm T1.6 / with 77mm HOOD RING at 599$.

Question: For this lens to work on the Pocket cam, do I need to HOOD RING?

Thanks for anyone who can help answer this. :)

If you have/want to have 77mm filters (which is a very standard filter size and you could always get step-up rings for your other lenses to match your 77mm, they are very cheap), then it's helpful.
I would go with it! But because all my ND filters and polarizer filters are 77mm.
And I would go with a geared focus, for me is also a plus since I always use follow focus!
If you want to use a follow focus, gear will come in very handy. But that does bring the price of the lens even higher...

If you don't need/have 77mm filter... then you can always buy a step-up ring later. You need a 58mm to 77mm.

Hope this helps you decide!

I just ordered the SLR Magic 12mm today. Should be amazing on the pocket.

I figured that due to the crop factor, there shouldn't be a problem using just a generic 58-77 step-up ring (instead of the one SLR Magic are selling for 50$).
Don't take my word on that. It's just a wild guess…

Yes you want the hood ring.

It allows you to more easily use screw in ND filters which you will need to shoot exteriors on this camera because of it's relatively high native ISO.

Here, this is a decent quality 58-77 step ring. Save your money and get one of these.
