4K Production Camera 1 week away

PostMon Aug 26, 2013 3:46 pm

At the Los Angeles Black Magic Design expo the rep told me that the camera would begin shipping in a few weeks. He said and I quote "Definitely by the end of August." So if their word is good we should begin seeing the camera roll out in less than 7 days. Right? :D Right? :? Right guys? :(

Well they're saying they'll make their August deadline as long as they don't encounter any delays. So far, since there hasn't been any news of delays regarding the 4k camera, i guess you're right. Either way they said at least september.

GOOD NEWS if True but, I won't hold my breath for next week.

If I can get mine within the next 4 weeks, I will be a HAPPY BUNNY.

I better start getting my Accessories, First up SSD's, Tilta RIG and V Mount Batteries.

I would hold off on getting accessories. Unlike the camera, they're relatively easy to come by, so there's no rush. If you buy your accessories now and you don't receive your camera until a while from now. You might not be able to return the accessories that don't end up working with the camera.

If shipping were to begin then it would mean a few cameras only As yet there is no footage so I think we have a few more weeks/months to go yet.

I have pre-ordered my 4K camera few months ago.... I have to say after the drop on the price for the 2.5K I'm thinking about cancel my pre order and get the previous (well, the actual) model....
I saw some used models running on eBay for like 1000$ - which is mad cheap! I think you cannot even buy a 5D M2 for that low.
My only concern - at this point, is really the sensor size in the 2.5K. Never tryied a BlackMagic so far so I thought why jumping on the new bad boy if I'm not sure I will be happy with the BMD workflow?
Im a DSLR user at the moment....

The 2.5K BMCC is still a great option. 1 stop of dynamic range more. Native ISO800, instead of ISO400. If you don't need 4K resolution (or a global shutter), the BMCC is great.

To the best of my knowledge, a "native" ISO rating for the BMPC-4K hasn't been announced by BMD, and hasn't been independently verified by anyone outside the company. As we know, the BMPC-4K isn't shipping yet.

Months ago JB posted that the BMPC-4K's sensitivity might be less than that of the BMCC (I assume based on results with an early prototype BMPC-4K, or given its sensor's specs), but it remains to be seen what the BMPC-4K's actual native ISO will be in the final production version of the cam.

Stay tuned.

This is ridiculous, first they miss the July ship month, now august. Thinking about how they treated the BMCC release and delay we thought they would learn from it and they actually even said they did... but they didn't and they keep being really freakin bad at communicating, releasing on time and fixing their faults.

What the hell is wrong with BM?

Although the wait has been long journey and few deadlines were surely broken
(I canceled my order in April before buying it recently being broken hearted)they are still the first
company to give us RAW for under $2K,insane right?

Seriously guys, how about we all join Canon forum and let them know how we feel about waiting 5 long years before ML finally threw the h.264 in the bin.

My support to BMD even if they don't release anything else apart from BMCC they are my hero.
Unfortunately actors and scripts are not bundled with cameras so I am reading forums until I work this one out

Any of you guys who tested the 2.5K had any struggle with the crop sensor?
I see the graphic below and I noticed is one of the smallest sensor :|
For the rolling shutter: I saw some good corrector for AE which could "fix" (kind of) the problem....

Well my dealer has now got Shipping End of September for the BMPC on their website.

Not even in September but the end? this is getting to be a little bit of a JOKE. AGAIN.

An official Statment on the shipping situation would be helpful, COME ON Black Magic put us out of our Misery.

Luckily the jelly effect isn't very prominent on the BMCC, but it is there, of course. There are very sophisticated correctors available, yet they all are limited by physics and won't produce flawless results. For processes like motion tracking a global shutter camera is always the better choice. Actually i'm more excited about the global shutter than about the 4k.

Coming from DSLR (which Im still using in these days) I'm sure I wont suffer too much for the jelly. My real concern is that crop sensor, I thought it was like a 7D but when I saw that graph (couple of comments above) i was like :o

The graphic only illustrates the 2.5K BMCC sensor, and comparing everything to full frame stills cameras is irrelevant.

The 'film look' digital cameras try and emulate includes many factors, but in terms of image depth of field, the gold standard historically was a Super 35 cinema camera sized gate. Not full frame still photography frame sizes.

I'll wait until January 2014 for S35, excellent color science (hopefully a reasonable ISO), 4K, and global shutter. I just can't live with the small BMCC/BMPC sensors. Wish I could. Would make for an easier, less costly, workflow.

In the meantime, perhaps as we wait, we can be developing new abilities so when that bad boy is released, we've learned something new. I've just started a Steadicam weight loss/exercise program.

Yes, so have you shot so much with your BMCC that it is not up to your expectations? Very curios here as your Vimeo channel doesn't have one video shot with a BMCC. Odd indeed.

Then we can only guess they have shipped the first 50 or so to the distributors, and we should see people getting the cameras within 2 weeks or less, I'm just guessing, but by your image that looks factual indeed.

It's now September and no footage online let alone shipping in August. There are no updates and no requests for information are answered. No dealers know anything and in fact there is a complete blackout. Pretty awful state of affairs.

No, but seriously.... come on... This cannot be right... Announcing something in april.. saying there will be no delays... Saying one week before last shipping date that there is a top 4 week delay... After 6 week no sound...
Somewhere up there somebody at BM must see the frustration at their forums...

BMD are in such a great position, No matter how bad people will react to shipping delays, issues, faults, firmware updates, etc... they cant do anything.

What are they going to do...buy another camera that shoots 4k Raw on Super 35 for $3995?

BMD pretty much has a lock on customers.

Its unfortunate that we are not seeing any valuable competition with BMD in terms of camera's. ( both price and functionality. )
