New camera won't power on?

PostWed Aug 28, 2013 8:32 pm

New camera out of the box.
Charged it up, popped on a lens, put in an ssd.
recorded 30 seconds of footy, transfered to the PC to check...all is good

Hooked up the ikan d7w to the sdi, all looks good.

I pushed the menu button to change white balance to check colors on the ikan, all is good.
I push the menu button to get out of the menu and the camera goes blank. I'm thinking maybe I hit the power button instead of menu??? (I know i didn't but...)

Press the power button again...nothing , no fan, no nothing.
disconnect the monitor sdi... cycle power,...nothing
change the lens, cycle power,...nothing
plug in the charger, cycle power,...nothing

After scratching my head for a while, I hold the power button in for a few seconds. (like on a pc when you want to force it to shut down)
I press the power button for the 1 second or so it took to start up before and I can see the screen flicker VERY faintly for just a 10th of a second of so. (like it was trying to turn on)

Tell me there's some kind of secret combonation of buttons on here that "Resets" the camera or something... Suggestions?

I was thinking, hit the button like it's "ON" then leaving it for a while to see if the battery goes dead and maybe recycles it??? (I'm NOT gonna attempt taking the battery out, if that's even possible, not gonna kill my warranty)

What firmware is it running? Sounds like the bug that was present when DNxHD support was added.

Try downloading the latest Camera Utility and connect the camera via USB. It will then check the camera and update the firmware if needed.

Might solve the issue.

Hi Chris,

If you already installed the camera utility software on your workstation, you could try and see if the utility recognizes the camera and perhaps updates it? just make sure the battery is fully charged just in case the update (if it happens) takes a while. Hopefully it recognizes it! This is what I would try?!

Good luck.

Not sure which version. Never got a chance to look (I don't recall seeing anything in the menu about the version?) Although I did see raw , prores, and dnxhd.

The cd that came with it has a 1.3 installer on the cd. Is this the camera utility you're talking about? Or something I have to download someplace?

installed utility on my pc. Updating now...
when I first ran the utility it said to power on the camera and plug in usb.
Usb was already plugged in...
but when I hit the power button the little green progress bar on the utility started moving even though the screen was still blank on the cam???

Appears to be updating now....

Hoping...waiting for the little green bar to go all the way over....

Yeah, It sounds like the installer recognizes the camera. That's good.

Nope...Green bar went all the way over, finished and then said software update failed. damn!

Got a link to the newer software? (I think it's up to 1.4 now?)

Tried doing a search on the website but it says some kind of sql error on the search thingy..

1.3 had a bug in it. So when you ran the utility off the CD it just reinstalled the same version.

Glad you got it sorted. :-)
