The firmware was just released so cameras that are being built in the factory may not have them. Just download the software from out website and run them in your camera, if it says you are up to date, then you will be fine.

Will such a fix also be available for the BMCC?
(It's not my top priority issue with the camera, but if I can get a fix for it why shouldn't I take it. I would also be interested to know if we can expect a fix for the audio anytime soon?)

Thanks in advance for any information you can give.

It's a camera aimed at consumers, it should have these features.

Sure Arri and Red don't allow you to delete clips in camera. This isn't an Alexa though, it's a GH3 competitor.

This market expects in-camera clip management. It just does!

I've never heard a good technical explanation of why it isn't implemented. If it causes fragmentation of the SSD, reduced performance, or shortens the life of the drive then just say so. Saves us guessing as to why features so common on competing products are not on this one.

Audio meters
Black hole
Sharper pro res images correction promised
Compressed Raw recording
Ability to see how much space is left
auto focus control on EF mount
Wider universal Canon/Sony Lanc support
Anamorphic mode
More frame rates

Is there a ETA for the compressed Cinema DNG update for BMCC?

Would love to see that.

Anamorphic mode too would be great, since the sensor is 4:3 size physically. Even an in-camera crop of the sides to give us 4:3 would be useful, if not useful for the resolution increase vertically.

Great news on the Pocket camera front about white orbs and black dots.

In the UK, CVP have the next shipment scheduled as 27th September on their website.

Except white orbs fix is not really working 100%. From the users' footage shot on the "re-calibrated" BMPCC cams, it seems that the artifact may have been diminished in some situations, but not really fixed.

The black hole sun issue has been present on the original cameras for over a year. It would be nice if they could address this on both cameras.

I'm assuming the reason why they haven't is because they're about to release a massive firmware update for the BMCC that is going to include this feature and a boat load of others. Maybe. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm probably wrong but that's my gut feeling. If it's in the pocket, it's 99% coming to the BMCC.

Hi Tony Rivera,

Thanks for the reply. I have included the picture to the RMA callback for the Pocket Blooming recall. So When it arrives in the UK they can also take a look at that to.

Tnx,

Please note, if you are running the 1.4.* software on your pc that is not 1.4.2, then it shows up as "up to date" even though when you run the 1.4.2 software it then proceeds to update.

So by "up to date", it seems to mean to say "the camera has up to this version installed", where I would typically think it meant, "we checked the internet for the latest firmware version number, and your camera and they match"...

The software you download and run checks the camera, if it's firmware matches the software, it's up to date.

IDK, pretty straight forward....

My point was that if you run out of date software (the software that comes in the package with the camera) it tells you the camera is "up to date". Yes, I'm just point out that, even though it says it's up to date, you need to check with the newer software.

If I install an old version of VLC player, and check for an update, it doesn't tell me it's up to date with whatever version I installed - it would reference the latest version number online and make sure I'm up to date with that one.

I installed the Black Magic utility software on the SD card that came with the camera, I ran it, and it told me the camera was up to date. Which was not the case. And it doesn't tell you what version number the camera is. That's all I'm trying to point out.

Yes, the cam must display currently installed firmware version in one of the menus. Currently it does not.

Yet another thing all other cameras do (VU meters anyone? Remaining SSD space counter? etc.), but not BMCC...

A Film camera mag., showed how many feet were shot. You still had to subtract that from total roll length, and then multiply that times feet per min. you are running, based on frame rate, to find out how much time was remaining.

BM camera shows total time used on media when you hit play button, between shots, you only have to subtract this from total time available on media to get time remaining.

Assuming the camera stops between the shots. Assuming all media is shot in the same compression scheme. Assuming you have more than 2 seconds on location to make a decision on whether to roll or change the media...

I find it mind boggling that some people actually defend the indefensible. For what purpose? Are you trying to actually prevent BM from including the "time remaining" indicator (in whatever units) in the future firmware updates?

There is no good reason not to have that indicator, how ever you spin it. I understand that they didn't find it important enough to spend coding time on it, but there surely is no hidden wisdom behind the lack of this and other information displays like vu-meters.

I think that all we need is the Black-Magiclantern guys to work on this products ;) ... All they did it for Canon users was amazing, even with the older cameras that not even record video that now can, like Canon 50D ...

Imagine how much this guys could do for BMCC products ... a Firmware loaded on the SSD to see the real potencial of this hardware, all the features, options, performance improvements, amazing new touch interface, upgrades each month, etc. really to let it free the Hardware for the good of the users. That i think is the way to get this product to the next level and beat on features even from products like Arri and/or RED

I think none of the BMC users will get even a little complain about to pay some to Black-Magiclantern guys if they make a Firmware with all that little "details" that are missed on the original BMC products firmware.

Don't you think it's a good idea to write some petitions to "Magiclantern" guys about this? ... oh! and there you will see the BMD guys really really happy too ... because of the thousands of new customers buying the BMC products because get finally HARDWARE FEATURES FREEDOM and let's the real CAMERA REVOLUTION begin ;)

It did happend with iPhone (Jailbreak) and with Canon (Magiclantern) ... next? ... BMC products (BlackMagicLantern) ... Thanks a lot BMD for the Hardware, but now we need other people to work on the Firmware ... because i think BMD are too busy right now on other stuff ;) ... and don't worry BMD, you will still selling your products, a lot of them, better keep working a lot, because you will sell more than ever before if this really happend ;) ... the best move BMD can do right now, is sending a BMCC to Magiclantern guys as a gift, and thanks them a lot for everything they will do
