PLEASE Update the BMCC

PostThu Sep 19, 2013 8:17 am

Dear BMD,
I own a BMCC EF since about half a year and really enjoy working with the camera. I love it´s simplicity and the lovely pictures it captures.
I am aware that you are extremely busy with the BMPCC and BMPC as well as tons of new hard- and software BUT there are some issues in the BMCC firmware which MUST be taken care of and which should have been adressed a long time ago. I know how many people ask for uncountable features in the next firmware but the following definetely things have to be worked out:

- The level of my external microphone (Rode Stereo Video Pro) is way to low even when the channels are set to 100%. This mic really is a good one but on the BMCC it´s so noisy due to the low level that I can´t use it for interviews!

- Remaining space on the SSD (This can´t be a big deal?!)

- Formatting in camera (This neither)

- A more accurate indication of the remaining internal battery

There hasn´t been an update in quite a while and even though you got your hands full I´m getting the feeling that supporting the BMCC isn´t in your minds anymore. Please don´t let your loyal customers down!

Friendly Regards,
Florian Blang

Audio metering
Zebras based on ProRes levels and not only sensor levels.
Reds coming out orange in video mode.

Time code, although I don't see how with the available connectors...maybe some black magic voodoo to turn one audio input as a time code sync input?

At least 60fps in prores.... almost any cam out there can do this.

PS - Histogram would be nice.

Your microphone doesn't output a sufficient signal for the input to the BMCC. It's not a good match, nor was it ever intended to be. It was designed for DSLRs, not professional audio. Not saying the audio in the BMCC doesn't have issues, but that mic is not intended for the type of input the BMCC has.

- Remaining space on the SSD (This can´t be a big deal?!)
AMEN

- Formatting in camera (This neither)
I think this is becoming a top priority for me. We are seeing a lot of compatibility issues reported and people are formatting their SSDs in a manner that the camera doesn't like. If the BMCC could format directly, it would control HOW the format is done and we would have more reliable SSDs. All the DSLR manufacturer's say you can format your CF or SD cards in windows/osX, but they recommend you do so in camera for best results. It simply eliminates one more step that could be botched by the user. I think we would see a massive decrease in SSD failures, no SSD and lost footage if BM would take care of the formatting in camera.

- A more accurate indication of the remaining internal battery
I believe this is done. We saw a screen capture from John (I think?) and it showed the battery percentage as 97%...so I think it should be coming shortly.

I really hope this is coming VERY soon

I have a feeling 1.5 or possibly V2 (since it's been a while) will have a really good amount of updates and is possibly the reason why it's been delayed so long.

There are MANY issues they are aware of, and MANY of them are simple aditions.

I think it's possible that we'll get most of what we want in the next release.
