Event Coverage

It is a known fact that you always pit the Blackmagic Cam with the 5D, and targeting those markets. But majority of 5D owners that are using it for pro work are event filmmakers (mostly wedding videographers). So what are the possible solutions that you have for those that intends to replace their 5Ds with the BMCC for event work regarding power, handling etc. Especially those that do same day edits. Like is there a possibility that we can tag metadata on the shot on cam as we go along and have them imported in FCPX already accumulated into keyword collections. Will there be SSD docks where we can just plug in all the drives after the shoot for direct access when we start to do the same day edits. Wont this reformat the cards for more shooting later?

Ok, let me get this straight. This camera is called Cinema Camera for a reason. Prepare for huge amount of data first. Second, you need some accessories to make it work. Same day edits with uncompressed media will kill you. If you film weddings/events get yourself Sony FS100 and you won't be disappointed. BMC is made for a different niche.

Hi,

You can also record Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) on the camera and a 480GB SSD will give you about 5 hours of recording time. The ProRes file drops straight into Final Cut Pro and other popular NLE applications and you can edit right away. You can even work off the SSD with a simple USB 2.0 to SATA cable since it is ProRes.

Do you know if Premiere Pro will have full support for the BMC at the time of release?

Currently having issues with the DNG files in both Premiere Pro CS5.5 and CS6.
No issues in After Effects but Im sure ProRes and DNxHD will be fine for both.
The DNG should go straight into Resolve anyway.

I am pretty aware that this is more intended for controlled shoots, but at this price level, many of the 5D owners who'll buy this thing will use it to shoot pretty much everything you see being shot with a 5D right now...majority of which is not cinema. More storage is a given since its an obvious trade off for a much more fantastic image quality. That dynamic range and skin tone rendition would just be amazing for weddings. So Im looking more for suggested workflow techniques to work around the imposed complications this awesome camera might bring. We do have an Fs100, its awesome..but I hate its size and form factor. This however, is looks awesome. The metadata tagging on camera + proress would be a perfect FCPX workflow.

Apart from everyone suggesting the obvious 'cinema camera' I do not see the possibilities to end just with our cinematic sectors.

The camera itself gives you a lot of tools most cameras in this price range do not have (yet). So if your keen to get gradable raw files from your friends event or wedding shoot sure go for it. I'd just make sure you have a small base camp set up to wrangle all your data onto a storage tower.

Just think in reverse, from your final product, to your editing, storage and then capturing technique.
