BMCC Power - Battery Run Times

PostThu Sep 27, 2012 11:34 pm

Hey all

Does anyone have any idea what the BMCC (and 5D MKIII) draw - looking at V-Lock batteries and wondering what capacity to go for - 100Wh seems pretty reasonable but I'm not sure how long it would power the camer for...

any ideas anyone?

Thanks

I've heard 18W is the power draw on average. I think I worked out a 160Wh battery to last 5 or more hours.

wow thanks guys - the NP-F970 is only 47.4Wh so thats encouraging - the 100Wh should give around 4 hours :D... I've found this product which is pretty cheap I think... reckon it'll do the job?

Those 200 minutes info came from James Tonkin and I believe he shot RAW only.
So it might be 14 W in RAW mode and 18 W in Prores because of additional encoding.

Thats certainly interesting - can anyone confirm? Would be good to know if one format gives a shorter battery runtime than the other...

Still hoping for Cineform RAW support in the future, BM please contact David Newman soon 8-)

1) Is there any adapter that could use LP-E6 batteries (5D Mark II / III batteries)?
2) If so, how long would the camera run on these batteries? Is it worth it, or are they too small?

Yes Ikan makes adapters for 5D batteries, they convert the 7.4V to 12V is really cheap but I dont know how long they lasts...

This solution would be even cooler if it was in the same way the Atomos Ninja does it with 2 Batteries that can be exchanged without interrupting power.

I'd love to put my 5d batteries to use - after getting rid of that DSLR ;)

LP-E6 batteries only power the BMCC for 15-20 min.

Swit S-8160S batteries literally have been lasting me somewhere in the neighborhood of 9 hours consistently on a rental camera. They're nice and weighty, two of them should get you through just about any situation.
