Pocket Lens Release Button

PostTue Oct 01, 2013 3:40 am

Just received my pocket cam. Haven't had a chance to take it out yet, but am curious about the lens release button as it seems, how to put this, not well made. Or maybe just my camera, but it is very loose. Just moving the camera in my hand (to insert battery or card) I can hear it move. Gently shaking the camera and it almost sounds like something is loose in the camera. Is this indicative of all the pocket cameras or do I need to have BM fix this? Everything else on the camera seems solid and well made, so wondering if I got one that snuck by QC.

thanks.

Mine has a little play in it, but it does not "rattle". Firm response when pressed. Lens locking pin also has a little play in it, you can wiggle it.

with a lens attached? without a lens it's a bit 'loose', but when the lens clicks in, it is good and firm (on mine).
currently enjoying my BMPCC & BMCC in Singapore.

It was the first thing I noticed when I took the camera out of the box. The lens release and battery door are extremely cheap/not nearly as sturdy as one would hope or expect.

My first pocket had a very loose battery cover and the lens button rattled/lens mount was faulty.

Replaced with a brand new one and it is better built.

MMedia, did you return to BM directly or to the retailer?

They still rattle but not as much. The first cam was one of the first sent out.

Thanks guys, it's not a huge issue, and still looser than I would like when a camera is attached. If I come across another camera in the wild that seems to not have the issue, I'll send mine in for a fix. I shoot run & gun mostly, so a little thing like a loose part is just asking for trouble.

They should look to the 5D for both the lens release button and the battery door (should be spring loaded, so it's quick to change the battery).

How about a BM employee chiming in to let me know if the loose lens release is normal?

Loose lens release is normal in my first pocket, now i'm waiting for replacement (camera have some factory faults like stuck pixel, and dust-defective sensor)

My Panasonic MFT 20 mm, f1.7 lens is stuck on the BMPCC and the release button is not working. I CANNOT GET MY LENS OFF. I am rushing back to my Panasonic DMC GH3 but want my lens back! Help!
