$30 ~ 12V rechargeable batteries.

PostFri Sep 28, 2012 6:36 am

I don't know if these type of batteries were discussed, but these batts
caught my eye.

You figure a small casing could be built for under/above the BMCC, whereupon these
batts could slide in like those Portapak batteries of yore.

Keep your eyes on http://www.thingiverse.com/

Someone amazing there will eventually begin posting models/creating
cheap adapters for the BMCC.

Are you saying these batteries won't work? It's 12 volt output, isn't that what the BMCC operates
on?

The batteries look small enough to fit neatly underneath/over the BMCC. The price is cheap
enough to merit a closer look.

i guess 9 amps will work but they are so cheap you may get one and test it out.

Those batteries look similar to these and according to the tester they sound really unreliable

The battery for sale on ebay has overcharge/discharge protection (and has an on/off switch),
also some of the commenters do indeed use these for their DSLR cameras (GH2).

This is a good video describing using these types of batteries with DSLR's. He had to 'hack'
a cable to make it work...the battery on eBay should interface nicely with the BMCC.

6+ hours with the GH2!

In 'my travels' I bought a lot of batteries, and the super cheap Chinese batts are quite reliable/usable.
I find buying 'official' batteries tend to be a bit of a scam.

Either way, until tests are done...it's all speculation.

nice small form factor compared to v plate stuff.

question is how can you rig it nicely.

there is a ton of battery options out there so you really can go with what ever you
like generally.

on paper it looks good

just have to get one and test it out. if it works then it is relatively cheap
but just have to test it out.

if it does not work out still good price for testing

I have a couple of the blue 12 volt batteries (in various sizes) mentioned at the beginning of this thread.
They have worked fine. They are pretty light so I used velcro to attach them and I also fortified the two cables.

The only thing to be aware of is they take a long time to charge. Like 1/2 day.

I've been using these to power an external monitor and they're very reliable, they do take a long time to charge but they'll easily last you a whole day non stop.
