SD cards on bmpcc

PostThu Oct 03, 2013 7:14 pm

I've looked at the 'official' list on the info section about the camera, and it makes me feel a bit better in terms of actually having a 128gb option with the Sandisk Extreme. I'm just a little bit unsure about it because I feel like I've heard many different claims online about how anything below the Sandisk Extreme Pro's read & write speeds will drop frames. Anyone who has worked directly with a bmpcc and a 128gb Sandisk Extreme card able to vouch that they do indeed work great with the camera?

BM can you confirm any other cards that will work? Such as the Transcend 128GB 90 r/w SDXC.

The list we have here(http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support ... 849&os=win) is what we have as approved at this moment. We are still in the certification process with other SD cards so when those are cleared, we'll update the list.

Tony, I can understand the confusion on this though. If you look at B&H site and the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Accessories and Media (I can't post the direct link so you can use my directions to get there).

You'll see they not only list Sandisk Extreme and Extreme Pro and Delkin but Includes Hoodman, Lexar

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/9 ... amera.html

Adorama is also listing various Lexar cards again looking at accessories and Flash memory
http://www.adorama.com/VDBMCCP.html

So people are going to start to wonder that any number of "fast" cards are "approved" given the dealers are pointing to them.

I'm not sure that those companies actually refer to our website to things we've certified when it comes to 3rd party peripherals. They may also have some sort of contract with companies to have their product advertised on pages that pertain to cameras.

All of that is speculation of course as I don't know their business practices when it comes to that sort of thing.

Thanks Tony.

The problem though as the original poster mentions Sandisk 128GB Extreme which is listed in the Blackmagic Pocket FAQ. B&H lists the card as discontinued. So currently there's no compatible 128GB card. B&H said they believe the Lexar 600x would work but without a BMD "blessing" there's no option. It would seem there's a few places selling down their reminder 128GB Extreme cards but without BMD blessing on something we're lost.

I've searched myself online and have found other sites selling those SanDisk Extreme SSDs. Not trying to deter business from any company but there are multiple places to purchase items that are compatible.

Tony, just to be clear, we're talking about SD cards (SDXC) not SSD.

Both the BMPCC and the BMD Pocket FAQ mention Sandisk 128GB Extreme
There are TWO speeds for the Extreme cards
45MB/s and 80MB/s
If it's the latter, they don't seem to be available anywhere.
If it's the 45MB/s they are available but B&H says they are Discontinued.
The problem is without details about the speed, the availability of the 128GB 45MB/s is moot if they are not compatible.

There are other companies that make 128GB cards faster than 45MB/s but BMD doesn't list them as compatible.
BMD doesn't list which 128GB Sandisk Extreme Cards are compatible either as the Extreme comes in TWO SPEEDS.

Please state WHICH OF TWO the Sandisk Extreme 128GB cards BMD considers compatible.

I apologize. It's been a long week and I misread this thread with another. I did however just comment on another thread about checking on the SD compatibility so as soon as I hear back, I'll try and remember to update this and the other thread.
