Possibility of in-camera card format and playback on BMPC?

PostFri Oct 04, 2013 10:18 am

Hi everyone,

I know that memory cards can't be formatted in the BMPC, and that clips can't be played back on the LCD, but I was wondering if these are features that could technically be added via a firmware update if Black Magic Design chose to in the future? Or is the hardware to support these operations simply not there?

I want the camera either way, since my understanding is that what it can do far outweighs what it can't, but it would be even better if there were hope for the possibility of overcoming these limitations.

Thanks!

JB I do believe mentioned in camera formatting for the BMPCC in a future firmware update.

There's no reason to believe it was not technically possible.

Honestly in the pocket I don't see in camera format being all that important. You format cards before you go out, and as you're offloading during the day, as you need to, you have the DIT do a quick exFAT format.
If anything prevents you from accidentally formatting in camera.

I would be much more keen on time remaining.... or hell even % of card remaining, even if it only shows when you're not recording.
