Filter Advice need

PostMon Oct 14, 2013 1:51 am

I am not sure what to use, I thought I was having a shutter angle 24fps issue but it is not. This was all shot at asa 200 with a metabones to nikon SB with the aperture set to 22. Everything gets pretty blown out. Would I need a polarizer?

You need ND filters.
The ISO doesn't alter the amount of light getting to the sensor. 800 is the normal ISO, with 400 chosen for richer colours on bright scenes.

that is what I was thinking, I do appreciate it. Do you thinking stacking a ND and polarizer would be best?

Especially for run & gun shooting outdoors, a variable ND filter can be very convenient & effective.

now here is another question, if raw was available would I be having the same issues? I have shot alot outdoors with my BMCC and never had this issue, but I always shoot 24fps, 180 in raw.

Thanks for the help guys!

The thing is, you don't always want to be shooting at f11, f22 anyway, even in raw.
If you want shallow depth of field, you have to bring the light down with ND's.
There is some debate between ND's and fader ND's. A fader ND is like two polarisers, so you don't need to add a polariser. Fader ND's are very convenient, but some people say they impact the image quality.

Get the ND in a diameter for your largest lens, then a cheap step up ring to fit it with your smaller lenses.

yeah 77mm is the largest, the issue I am having is I am not going to order something from hong kong and have it sent to the US. The Genus is not available domestically, the tiffen and hoya are, looks like a night on vimeo comparing!

Very happy with my Genus.
(Whatever you get, get a 77mm and step up rings for other lenses, as suggested above).

I have one. I love it. I've also never needed an IR filter to accompany it. Amazing for clouds. But it doesn't get much love on this forum and it seems to equate to amateur night for the professional crowd. Thats not a dis, if I had unlimited funds I'd go 4 x 4 crazy but the variable tiffen has been perfect for my needs.

at this point I only shoot my daughters and clouds outside, working on a screen play now that takes place in a cab (all true stories from when I drove one) but half of that is at night anyways, so amateur night is perfect for me
