BMCC and Merlin steadycam

I have idea here if one could put bmcc on Merlin and work like that.

Ok it is rather on the edge of weight merlin could handle so no matte boxes and something like that
but what i calculated is bmcc + 70-200 L series is about 3,1 kg and should work as merlin is rated 3,2 kg.

I would have battery on belt of course and some monitoring off the rig.

Maybe little bit pushing but should work ?

Maybe get a PILOT is more practical

yes i had that also in mind so the whole thing would have some overhead

You probably won't be able to have a battery on the belt, it'll spin the merlin (we tried a similar setup on a 7D with a USB follow focus. The focus puller really had no margin for error at all, the USB cable dragged the steadicam everywhere with it). I also found it to be right on the edge, by spec. Pilot is probably the way to go, but if you do try the Merlin, I'd really recommend having the vest. That rig will get really heavy in a hurry, handheld.

yes i was considering with vest only but i agree on that merlin is on the edge.

will dig some more on battery options etc.

Or make your own. They're really simple to do. First off I'd try a monopod with some weights on the bottom. You'll be surprised at the results once you've had a bit of practice. If not check out the Jaybiliser or other diy systems.
