BMDCC Surf / Wet environment housing.

PostTue Oct 02, 2012 8:50 am

Hey Folks,
Just a heads up. I am currently working on a wet environment / splash / surf housing for the BMDCC. Work wise I am an EMMY Award winning cameraman and have in the past year been working a lot in the surf where I am based, Bali.

I am working closely in collaboration with Liquid Eye Water Housings for the product which will carry my company name, liquidmocean. As yet we have our first cast prototype but will be looking to revise that and fingers crossed have a working model by the end of October. Initially we will be looking to create the housing around the Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX until a wider more affordable lens can be found.

There will be access to the required buttons for recording, Iris and Focus and will also have an HD SDI Out jack fro wet connection to an external monitor, ideal for pool work etc.

As yet I'm trying to get price point in around $1700 which will include the complete kit with a handled sled and the lens port for the Tokina. Don't quote me on the final number though as things can, and may change.

Cheers,
mark.

Hi Mark
Funny, I just wrote a post about operation the BMCC with just macanical buttons... I'm super interested in the housing (Then I don't need to make one myself ;) ).
for 1700$ I'll order one today!
just a few question, I guess it will have manual focus nob?
about the port, would you consider to use another producera of ports (Ikelite, Aquatica, Gates)?
What do you think the depth rate will be on this housing?

Cheers

Hi Markus,
Yes, correct there will be access to manual focus.

At this point we are using the ports made for us by Liquid Eye. I had been involved with a housing build in the past for my RED One camera at the time in south Africa. We bought Aquatica Domes but the company would not supply us with engineering drawings of their mounting system so we had to reverse engineer the whole deal. Not fun.

Depth wise this is not being touted as a dedicated dive housing. Testing will see us suggest a max depth of 10m / 33fsw

I will get a working model to a standard I'm happy with before taking orders, saves a lot of issues and concerns from all parties involved.

Cheers,
mark.

Thanks Mark

I guess Ikelite would be easy to use (but not thet High quality, maybe).
10m would work, but 40m would be better :D
I sended you an e-mail, just let me know if I can be at any assistent!
My Idea is to take part from my old XL2 gates housing, and build a Alu housing.

Sounds like a cool project. I'd be interested in a housing.

Will keep an eye out for more details.
