BMPC 4k - Any News?

PostThu Nov 21, 2013 10:14 am

I hardly dare to ask… are there any news concerning the Production Camera 4k?

What I know:
- No footage yet
- "Shipping Q4"
- "Sensors just in, maybe 3-4 weeks" (August)
- "Sensors were late, maybe 3-4 weeks" (September)

That is not a Blackmagic official website.

First of all, thanks for the replies!

I agree with Scott. They refer to an announcement at "InterBee Show" but I couldn't find any references supporting that claim. I am aware that it would still just be another shipping date announced by Blackmagic, yet it would at least be evidence that there might be some progress. Maybe someone can help by linking to a more credible source?

/me plays Aerosmith - Same old song and dance

BMCC all over again. Expect to receive a camera which malfunctions and has a crippled audio system... then watch them slash the price by a third 3 months later, promise firmware updates which are never delivered on, etc.

Lol. Perhaps the reason they are late with the release is because they are trying to avoid the above??? ;)

lol :P Unlikely given that the BMCC was horribly late (seemingly for the same reason as the 4k camera) and it still had it's somewhat severe firmware quirks (which still haven't been seen to, probably because of development priority being shifted to their newer cameras).

I'll probably buy a 4k camera... even after all the neglect and broken promises.

I can perfectly understand your disappointment, I already had to go through this with the Cinema Camera and I am not happy that it is about to happen again. However I would appreciate if we could try to have at least one thread in the forum that puts the focus on current developments as we are all aware of the things that happened.

When the 6K/8K camera is announced by BMD. Just +1 year to when you'll actually see delivery in small amounts. Simple.

I, for one, will not complain about the price slash. Being a first adopter of bleeding edge tech is not worth it for everyone.

Yea and technology just always advances... I mean when people complain about costs... its like well you know things get cheaper. I bought a GTX 780 SC when they were first released for like $700 bucks. 6 months later they are $500 due to the release of the GTX 780 ti.

Buying technology is like playing blackjack... you play based on the information you have present at the time. If you are going to kick yourself every time you play it based on the information you had available and the dealer flips over his card and has a hard 20... well you shouldn't be gambling. Watch next year they will release the 4k pocket production camera for $2k. Does that change my decision to buy a BMCC last month for 2k? NO.
