BMCC AMA Plug-in?

PostSat Oct 06, 2012 6:13 pm

Is it Blackmagic's intention to develop an AMA plug-in for the QT wrapped ProRes and DNxHD for use in Media Composer to extract the metadata being logged in camera? As of now, that information is lost when accessing the files directly via the QuickTime AMA plug-in.

This would be similar in concept to the Arri AMA plug-in for the ProRes files where it extracts the metadata and allows it to be displayed in the bin.

I'd assume they'd stick with processing/converting to DNxHD .mxfs through Resolve. I could be wrong.

Well yes and no - it's part of the overall workflow flexibility for any given job. AMA in concept was to allow camera manufacturers control over Media Composer support for their camera essence and metadata. Granted AMA does not allow for LUT support (which it sorely needs), But I can see it being quite common for some program types to create dailies in Resolve with BMD->Rec.709 applied, then an AMA to original DNX media for color correction within MC that does not require the depth of control offered by Resolve.

I am just trying to figure out who will make the AMA plug-in? I asked Avid the same question. We will see...

Once could argue that there be a CinemaDNG AMA Plug-in as well - but being an open standard, who will want to apply the resources to create it? Avid? Blackmagic? Aaton? Ikonsoscope?
