Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! (a story of a camera)

PostThu Oct 11, 2012 9:18 pm

Dearest Blackmagic Design..

I hope this message finds you well..

You don't know me.. I am someone that is currently making payments on a fully paid-for BMCC that I currently do not possess.. it's not just me.. there are a gazillion of us out here.. (well.. maybe not a gazillion.. but I'm sure I'm close.)

I've been patently waiting for my shiny new camera to come in the mail and not giving in to the naysayers on the forum.. I think I check my email 20 times a day in hopes there will be a shipping notice from B&H.. but alas.. my efforts are for naught..

I get my hopes up each time I see a new BMCC video posted.. but another check of my email and hopes are dashed yet again..

A very special few people have received their BMCC's.. I see Philip Bloom jet-setting the globe with his at his side.. and a very few others.. a few retailers have them (for display only).. my day begins to brighten.. again..
email is checked.. and... well.. you know.. :/

Could we possibly get a progress report?.. pretty please? with sugar on top???!!

I need to know that the camera I've purchased what seems ages ago is at least being built and shipped in the next week.. month.. something!
Is this going to happen is all I'm asking.. for reals..

Love,
Bill Rich

Disclaimer: The drama in this message is purely for entertainment purposes.. Although the intent is quite serious.. I wanted to add a little smile to the hard working folks that are hopefully making my camera right now! (pretty please??)

Any update, even if its to say that nothing has changed. Even if its to say that it wont arrive for another year. Even if its to say they are waiting for something or someone. anything, anything is better than silence.

Also, regular, scheduled updates is I think what is really necessary, like every Friday for example. Then we know all week when we will get some kind of communication. No more pestering for updates in the mean time etc.

I paid in full in June. I don't have a problem with this necessarily - It was my choice - my reseller only asked for about 20% of the cost as a deposit, but, the deposits are paid as a sign of good faith by the customers that they will in fact purchase the camera when it comes out. I know BMD dont get any money until they ship the cameras but as they sell only via their resellers, they are inherently connected to them. It would be great if the good faith was reciprocated and communication between BMD, the resellers and end customers was improved. It's not a big request at all, and its not an unreasonable one. Its certainly more reasonable than asking for a £500 deposit for a camera which has no signs of being released any time soon. I know I can cancel my pre-order anytime, but it seems a bit unfair for my only options to be: 1: wait and put up with no communication, 2: not buy the camera.

If possible and if its not too much info - I would also like to know the projected rate of manufacture for when the production issues are resolved. This would give us an idea of when those of us lower down in the list might expect to see their pre-order fulfilled.

Thank you for the previous updates, and I can completely understand and sympathise with things going wrong out of your control - it happens and I expect glitches like this to sometimes occur. All I ask as an end customer is to be kept informed about the status of my order.

Update, or I'll cancel and spend the money on some Profoto studio strobes and forget I ever wanted to be a cinematographer!

With the Canon C100 shipping in about six weeks some people will be tempted to take a lesser quality image but at least be shooting. There is already some buzz about this switch on the boards. From BM there is nothing but silence. At the same time BH is saying that they have thousands of orders and they do not expect any cameras until the last week in December. I rather the stress in my life be whether I got a shot, not if I can make a shot.

I guess I'm not the only "whiner"?

But apparently there are only, what, a dozen of us whiners in the whole world? I'm sure that's it ... ;)

I just wish I could find a sales person that wouldn't make me feel like, I'm "smoking something strange" to even think I'm going to get the camera, that most of you have been waiting on for many moons already.

I guess I should be some what happy about it :| , at least I still have my camera money. :|

all i'd ask for is something akin to what every parcel delivery company does: a status update that tells you where something is. e.g.... new glass recieved.... 100 units in assembly.... 100 units shipped to distributor X... etc...
