Firmware 1.6.2 kills a column of sensor pixels!

PostWed Feb 26, 2014 3:34 am

Just got my BMPC 4k out of the box. Everything was looking fine and dandy, so I decided to update to the latest firmware that was released yesterday, 1.6.2.

Once I was updated and rebooted I immediately noticed that a column of pixels were stuck. I did a quick recording and it is indeed on the final product.

I was able to successfully revert back to 1.6.1 and the dead column of pixels went away, so just be aware that your camera may freak as mine did with the new software.

Make sure you report it to BM support otherwise they will never know as this is a user forum and they rarely come in here

i have the same issue, but the firmware actually made me jump from 1 line to 3 lines of blue/green/junk. This in conjunction with the banding is really really annoying/unusable for us. here is an image of 400asa with the iris closed to see the lines that exist right in the camera.

Because it's mostly used by users. The moderators have often said that if you want to make sure tech support know about an issue then contact them directly.

I had the same problem.
What I noticed was that when the camera got warm, it changed from blue to green-ish and sometime almost completely gone.
I contacted my vendor and they accepted to take it in, So i'm sending my camera back today.
Though, I turned it on today after a few days of being off and the column has never been as bright and blue.

I doubt its a SW problem, I blame the sensor...

I haven't updated firmware yet, is it better if I don't for the time being? Still running on the original firmware from the factory, I've only had the green screen issue once, but the camera is performing like a champ so far. I would hate to introduce an issue by updating to the newest firmware.

Has anyone had any problems on the BMPCC upgrading to the 1.6.2 firmware? I'm at 1.5.1 and I generally like to stay current. Are there noticeable benefits to upgrading? Just a little gun-shy; probably due to reading too many posts here.
Thanks.

No, the firmware will not change anything in the BMPCC. it fixes a "rare" problem with some of the production cameras BMPC 4K

I also like to keep my software up to date. I have the BMPCC as well and I updated to 1.6.2. Just had a full shoot yesterday and everything came back normal, so I say upgrade away if you are like me and just want to be running the current version. No good reason to do so other than saying we are running 1.6.2 though :-)

Update on this matter for anyone who might be experiencing the same sort of thing.

Last night I turned the camera on and the line of stuck came back.

This morning I turned on the camera and the line was gone.

So it sounds like its really is a dud sensor issue rather than software.

Not necessarily, temperature has a big influence that sort of thing. I've posted a way to do a blackshade yourself in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=19422

For kicks I updated the firmware back to 1.6.2 and got even more lines. Same temperature. Just a few minutes apart.

Just had the exact same thing: whole vertical column of stuck/dead pixels.

Looks like we should have checked here first before updating!

This is a zoom in to see the issue more clearly.

This is why I am running the firmware it came with out of the box! No way I'm updating until this issue disappears :)
