Amazing! Wait! Did they announce a 65mm 17K Camera Sensor?! Did I jokingly get that somewhat right in my previous posts on this Forum?

Resolve 19 update with all the broadcast features are not for me. :(

That URSA Cine looks like a mix breed between the URSA Mini Pro and the original big URSA. This is for large productions and studio market. It has that side display like in the big URSA which tells me that this is made not for a single shooter camera. Cool as the features are, I think it will quickly have the same faith of the big URSA as it won't have the same sales as the UMP and price out the real buyers of BM Cameras. I doubt Hollywood will be replacing the Arri with BMUCINE any day soon. Buyers for this will likely be rental house. If I need this camera, I'll just rent it.

Now, the box camera PYXIS 6K, that I really like!!! But again, the battery is questionable. Will a v-mount adapter be available?

That's a nice panel which I have been asking BMD to come up with one in this forum - even shared a diagram of how I envisioned it to be. After years of not hearing anything, I gave up hope. I've been looking for an affordable one and this should have been it. Very unfortunate coz I needed one couple of months ago, so I bite the bullet and paid for a micro panel. :(

I missed a feature point. Is the new Pyxis 6K the same sensor as the other full frame 6K camera? Or is it a new one?

I think you should rewatch the presentation - there are much more new features than those.
The new AI stabilizer alone is fantastic news. And the neural engine noise reduction.
And finally sidechaining for VST in Fairlight. And presets for footage audio track setup. No more click-deleting through 15 channels to reduce to one.

Wow what a day for Blackmagic.

Interesting to see that internal ND have been all but relegated to the top of the line model now. I understand that with L-mount there is not enough physical space, but for the Pyxis PL-Mount version the space should have been there. I have to see I would not trade internal NDs for anything, so my 6K Pro converted to PL will have to keep trucking just a little longer.

I'll be curious if they ever start cutting that 12K sensor down into a S35-sensor size? I would be very interested in that - perhaps even in that Pyxis body they released.

What is everyone else's thought on this?

Yes, I agree. It's worth it for all the features you mentioned above. I was commenting specifically on those broadcast features only - and the replay part - man that put me to sleep.

Same. Maybe one day the 'old' 12K sensor or a s35 restricted version of the new one in the Pyxis body, with internal ND (in a PL and EF version).

Perhaps the new box camera could have been introduced as a single LF model in 2024 and then the EF and PL versions with internal ND would be released in 2025?

I don’t mean to upset anyone, but I’m glad to see they released a PL version today even without the internal ND filters. Still leaves the door open for future generations of the box camera.

I beg and beg for a low cost panel... this was a concept of a low cost panel I shared here in 2020.

viewtopic.php?f=21&t=127340&p=693860&hilit=Panel+concept#p693860

It finally arrived. A little bit too late for me since I ended up with a micro panel just out of necessity.

Killer price tag for the new cine cam also even though it's higher than one would expect from Black Magic, relative to what it offers.

I just hope that after the 65mm 17K that they take it up a notch to true IMAX 15-perf size and it's like 24K or something. Then maybe we can even get Nolan behind it. Haha.

But I'd gladly shoot a movie on this new 65mm 17K Sensor for IMAX. It just would be 2.4:1 or whatever the aspect ratio would be for that 17K sensor. I have to double check those dimensions.

EDIT: Going back to that streaming video: 17,520 X 8,040 pixels for 2.18:1 aspect ratio. So close to the 2.2:1 aspect ratio you got with 5-Perf 65mm Film.

I was playing with the 17K sensor in my spreadsheet that summarizes many of shooting ratios for BMD cameras and couldn’t see why the horizontal resolution was that number. It’s not emulating any aspect ratio I can think of but I may be wrong since there’s been what seems like 100 formats in the last century.

It’s not perfect. But close enough. We’re talking about it being 0.02 off. So forgivable.

BMD really set the bar on releasing new products!
I'm impressed how they keep pushing inovation and actually keep disrupting to some extent.

You can all laugh at me, but I'm selling my 6k FF rig and going to.....

an URSA Mini 4.6k! the OG.
I found one under $1k in amazing condition. I was going to go back to the UMPG2, but I have all these fancy IRNDs lying around and I might as well utilize what I have.

I'm going to sit on the current products for now. If there's anything BMD has taught me is patience, haha.
If it would EVER make sense for me to own the Ursa Cine, I know I'll enjoy that camera to death.
But for now, the UM4.6k is gonna be paired with a Pocket 6k Pro for most, if not all, of my shoots for the foreseeable future.

(unless BMD wants to send me a camera to review, hehe)

We aren't laughing, because we will probably do the same.

Nice to have such distinguished company added to the UM4.6K cabal of shooters who regularly pair that original CinemaDNG camera with a BRAW BMPCC4K/6K. Of course I’d love to add one of the new cameras, but for other reasons I’m currently financially constrained. I do feel my next camera will be my last camera, given my age, but shooting regularly with BMD cameras keeps me young at heart.

It's a good camera for sure but you'll have to work around the different generations of the color science to match easily with the Pocket 6K Pro, or shoot cDNG on the Ursa Mini. Not a big deal though.
