Batch convert .DNG files to .MOV or .MPEG

PostThu Apr 04, 2024 6:03 pm

Hello, does anyone have a recommendation for batch converting hundreds of .DNG Black Magic footage files that were shot in 2018? Converting to .MOV or .MPEG would be great.

Best wishes,

Why not use DR? I think even the free version will do.
And then, don’t render into MPEG, it’ll ruin your quality. Use ProRes (Mac), and Cineform or DNxHR (PC).
MOV is just a container.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

I agree that using Resolve is the simplest approach for this as those are raw images. If you have to add a noise reduction node, you'll need the Studio version for best results (or use a plugin like Neat Video on the free version but for that price you might as well buy Studio).

I have a project in Resolve that I call "DaVinci Developer" that I set up for this purpose; I use Resolve Color Management which recognizes the raw files and brings them into the Rec709 color space (you can make tweaks as needed in the raw tab) and then I export the individual clips as ProResHQ, which gives me some good flexibility if I need to do some grading later.

In past there were some utility that read and convert cdng in different codec, I bought in past a tool to convert to cibefromraw, but at today is outdated and cfRaw is not developed like raw.

If you want to reduce space there is slim raw to reduce cdng weight by compression.

Or use like suggested Resolve to develop and save a good ProRes or a Cineform from them.
