Question to JB dropping frames

I hear some issues with the SSD and dropping frames
This is one of the big important point for me I can't take the risk loosing frames on the set ..
What is your experience I think you are the one who shots mostly with this camera and will get most information which will be helpful for every one

There shouldn't be any issue as long as you use the qualified drives.

I have had OCZ'S drives fail to mount on a desktop.

Right now I'm using one and sometimes two cameras every single day.

I'm using Sandisk 240s.

I've always formatted the SSD from day one. the BMD engineers told me it was better to format than use erase and I guess this is the reason. Erase works, but it starts to slow the drive down.

This has nothing to do with not being able to to erase clips.

I keep seeing it as mythology that it's a feature that's been forgotten or overlooked as a failing.

No formatting and no clip erasure in camera, at this point in time, is a very deliberate choice BMD have made.

I wouldn't recommend OCZ disks. I've had so many fail on me:(

I've never experienced dropped frames using the BMCC. Never once.

I've had drives fail (several OCZ drives)

I've had the camera crash where the screen goes white. Amazingly it kept recording, I just lost the use of the screen ! This was in the very early days pre-release mind, and I've found the current build 1.1 to be remarkably stable by the way.

I don't see those on the list. I'm also assuming that you are referring to the Sandisk 240 extreme, not the ultra?

Thge Sandisk 480 GB is on the list. Getting started, what are peoples opinion on using the 240's vs the 480's..... One thing I noticed in the forums and manuals is that when recording, one can't delete a clip/sequence in the camera..... IMO, that means I'll go through a little more media than I'm used to. I delete crap when I shoot it on camera if I know there's a problem.

I do remember 240 extremes being on the list at one point, recommended for prores shooting. Could be wrong, I do know changes have been made to the list.

From what I understand, the 240's are slightly quicker than the 480's. If this is true, then its logical to shoot on smaller drives from a security point of view. If one of those drives gets dropped and breaks you've only lost half your footage... Also it would allow a DIT to process the footage faster & more frequently than say a 480 assuming you got roughly 30 mins out of the 240.

REDmags don't come much bigger than 512gb which equivalent to the 480, if I'm not mistaken?
