1.8.2 Firmware Bricked my pocket

PostThu Jul 17, 2014 1:13 pm

While updating my pocket this am to the new firmware, I received the msg update failed about 15 seconds into the process and the pocket went dark. It will not power on. I am not sure if this is an isolated issue, but I would advise waiting a day or two to see if this is a wide spread situation.

I have emailed tech support and am hoping for a fix. I was foolish. I have a wedding to shoot this weekend and I should have never been so carefree in updating. I know better, but still updated.

Please post if anyone else has had issues.

BMCC 2.5 ef updated like a champ.

I hope your camera had enough battery power to complete the update. If the battery died that could damage the camera.

Just updated both my BMCC and BMPC4k, no issues at all.

Had it hooked up to the AC power, no lens, no SSD.

People have been able to recover in the past by doing a random combination of holding the power button, and pluggin in the USB cable with the firmware updater app running, and changing the order of doing so and how long they hold the button and unplugging the cable etc.

Try spending 10-15 minutes coaxing it back to life..

I updated my bmcc with my tamron lens on with no issue for 1.8.1 and with my sigma 18-35 on it for 1.8.2 with no issues. I just make sure my battery is at 100% and im plugged into AC power and my laptop is also on AC power.

A friend bricked his pocket a few hours ago because he did the update to 1.9.3 with 10% battery (i wanted to punch his face for that) and he couldnt recover it from mac, so he did the procedure (connect pressing POWER button while the updater was open) on windows, did the 1.9.3 and the updater recognized the cam, even with black screen, and started to write the firmware, so now he have recovered it. and he learned a lesson

BTW i updated mine with no problems having a lens attached (panasonic 14 45), but i never knew i had to remove it to upgrade, anyway no problem there.
