New Prores running times on 64gb card. Anyone?

PostSun Jul 20, 2014 8:57 pm

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have a list of the running times we can expect on the new Pro res formats when using a 64gb card. I think it used to be.
Prores HQ - 37mins
Prores Proxy - 238mins
But what about the other flavours of Prores
Many Thanks

Lots of discussion. Do the math for any size card you like.

Thanks for the link but I'm looking for time in minutes as opposed to data rates, which I'm sure somebody may have worked out already and would save me the agro of doing :-)

Mark, in the "Why Proxy" thread here, I listed the storage requirements in GBs to record an hour of video in all the ProRes flavours for HD video 30 fps with audio (plus other codecs for comparison purposes). The numbers come from Aja's Data Calc app.

You could quickly calculate what you'll get on a 64GB card in the BMPCC, but don't fill the card to the brim!

Ok here's my maths for a 64 GB card on a BMPCC at 1080 25p
ProRes data rates for 1080p25:
ProRes 422 HQ = 26.1MB/sec
40minutes
ProRes 422 = 17.5MB/sec
60 minutes
ProRes 422 LT = 12.2MB/sec
87 minutes
ProRes 422 Proxy = 5.6MB/sec
190 minutes

Does anyone agree?
Thanks Mark

If you have an iPhone you should grab AJA's DataCalc. Let's you calculate time and data based on your chosen codec.
