"Sunshine is one of the most beautiful films then about 2/3rds of the way through it is like the writer just ran out of ideas and ruined it. Was such a disappointment."

I totally agree! That's usually when I stop it and watch something else. Just love the look of the ship interior and the production design, so well done until the story goes haywire.

Actually, I just found out there are no working temperature specs on the BMD site. It's gonna be pretty cold here in Russia soon, what are the chances to shoot outdoors?

I shot with mine this morning and it was 28F (minus 2 celsius) Everything went ok but I was only out for 20 minutes. I don't think I'd be comfortable with it too much colder.... Moscow? I say wait till spring.

in Moscow it will be -32 easy some weeks in the winter i bet :)

Some older posts i remember +/- 0 Celsius was the low point.

I bet internal battery may last shorter but i'm not sure what tech has been used there.

some batteries bare down to -20 C

If introduction to cold and hot is gradual that you do not have a lot condensed water around
then i may be doable if battery or external battery holds?

I've never had a problem with equipment in Russia, even in the Amur valley in January - well outside the operational range of my GH1. You may have issues with external batteries I guess.

One thing that can help is to have an external battery inside your coat so your body keeps it warm. That is a trick I know guys who do ski/snowboard films have used.

I use a battery like this on my film cameras, you can just wear it on your shoulder inside your coat:

Does anyone know why the long awaited update will be coming from Australia? I thought the cameras were being produced in the USA? (embarrassed to be Australian customer)

@paulkosmala - I don't get the car picture. I get the quote, not the cars.

@Sunshine convo - This is how I watch Sunshine (and how I showed it to the gf): [spoilers]Watch it all the way till it becomes a slasher, go to the very ending as Kappa rides the bomb and explain that, of course, horrible things go wrong and Kappa is the only survivor and he must finish the mission to save earth...and continue the last 5 minutes of the movie.[/spoilers]

@Nikolay - I want a bear! Where can I get one? Can you drop ship a bear?

I preordered from B&H. They simply charge your card to make sure you have enough in your account and they put it right back the next day. Soooo what's the big deal about preordering? I didnt get a video game t-shirt BUT i did get the handels for only 6 bucks extra. Seems like a sweet deal for me. When the camera does start shipping at higher volumes I will be shooting with one, and you won't.

I'm still holding onto my spot @B&H... keeping my eyes and ears open though-- good red package comes up I might have to jump ship... I remember waiting ages for the scarlet only to be let down when it was redesigned and sold at the much higher price point  So long as BMCC delivers what they promised, I'll be a happy camper :D But, I'd really like to go camping sometime soon...

Cool it guys... Its not a competition.

Jason - he responded to you like that because you came off a little condescending to those who pre-ordered, and he makes a good point - he will probably get his camera before you; that is why people preorder...

Well, history dictates otherwise, every time there was a big problem (read: complex to solve) BMD held of on updating us.

I can remember Grant saying in one of his updates that he was holding back PR people, because he doesn't want any 'fluff' updates.

They'd first of all want to try and quantify and/or solve the problem before putting out the word.

Waiting for Godot....I think that many potential buyers of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, indeed originally quite enthusiastic customers, are beginning to loose faith in the ability of Blackmagicdesign to deliver what has been promised, advertized, and ... postponed.
After some time, when a such a psychological stage of disbelief has been reached in the mind of customers – I call the red line – many of these customers will consider, as it is already the case, other solutions, and brand fandom will turn into brand skepticism. Also the distributors, at least the honest and caring ones, have started to despair about the informational void created around the delivery of the BMCC.
I have no doubt however, that BM will deliver its goods to the masses some merry day. But I fear that, when the flow of ready to market cameras will be capable to satisfy the demand, many buyers will already have opted for alternatives, even pricier ones.
A very important issue which has NOT been clearly covered by BMD is how cameras will be serviced, for example here in Norway. This is a crucial issue for professionals. So here too, we have an informational void.
I seize nevertheless the opportunity to thank BMD to allow its customers to express themselves rather freely on their own forum. Desperately wanting to shoot a real contre-jour through a window a sunny day.

i think red is nothing bmc is.
totally different cameras in sense of image and color representation.

imo bmc is more like alexa. so you have bmc or alexa and a bit difference in price :) ?
but this is just my 2 cents.

I kinda have to agree with you, I've been looking at other options ... but I just can't find anything that delivers the same 'OOMPH'-image quality I've seen from the BMCC.

At least not in my budget range. Luckily I'm in a position where I have to wait anyway until next year before making my purchase so it's not that much a problem. Closest step up in budget is a step down in IQ :(

However, I can totally understand not wanting to wait for that delicious piece of pie when you're hungry. And if it turns out the line is too long in the take-away chinese because they somehow are out of good noodles, I'll go nextdoor for some pizza. ;) (having the budget for pizza that is)

My goodness. BMD, please put some of the poor souls on this forum out of their misery! Guys, the fact that some are getting their cameras is a living testament that BMD will deliver the camera, with the advertised specs and price. It's just going to take some time. I've been seeing some of the most ridiculous posts ever. Fear not, this is not like what happened with Red Scarlet. BMD can't deliver to some and not the rest of us what was promised. Be strong, guys. I encourage you to educate yourselves in the meantime. When the camera finally arrives at your doorsteps, you'd better damn well be ready to make history. Or this wait will have been in vain. If I see another lame video, shot with the BMCC, I'm gonna puke.

I don't think they can continue to make 10 to 20 units a month-that doesn't sound very profitable. Some guys and girls are getting cameras but not in the U.K. As far as i know there's been only one unit shipped to our fair isles. So they are shipping to some and not some others.

there have been at least 3 units (possibly more) to the UK.

I know that Jigsaw24 and CVP received at least 1 demo unit each and that CVP received a unit to sell last month or so also.

Not that this is impressive or good enough - i'm just informing :-p

Is the model of the drive one of the "latest supported" models for the camera? I get confused around the lists in what works and what doesn't.

Wow. Ok. Be like that. Have you also shot with Epic or Alexa? Super 16? I have. Don't be a jerk.

that wasn't meant as an attack in the slightest. I have shot on an Epic and super 16 on an Aaton XTR prod. I havent shot on the Alexa. why does it matter?
