Beginner Kit

PostThu Nov 22, 2012 3:10 am

Hey does anyone have any suggestions about what is a "first in the bag" for the purchase of a BMCC?

I just got my order placed today! I am really hoping for a forth quarter delivery! (COME On SENSORS!)

I am going with Canon Lens, - We will be taping a project with a talking head, and then some basic green screen work.

I have an Atomos Samurai - will that work with the BMCC? -

So I guess I need:

Lens
Rails
Follow Focus

Any other starter items?

Thanks in advance.

The Samurai can record from a 1080p source, so it can be used as an external monitor for the BMCC, and/or to record (for example) to ProRes 422 HQ (and with "Film" or Video gamma) while the BMCC records internally 12-bit 2.5K RAW uncompressed.

Since you've only just recently placed an order for a BMCC, chances are you may be waiting a while before its delivered. In which case you might consider waiting to buy gear for it -- since it may become less expensive over time, and/or new products become available.

Cheers.

in my humble opinion ssds, ext. batteries and lenses more important than rods or ff. you can not shot anything with only rails, ff and lenses.. but you can start to shooting with only ssd, ext. battery and lenses..

So, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Switronix-P ... 3cc4ac5418

Can that charge any available v-mount battery?

Does anyone know if it comes with the Switronix PB70 for BMCC?

I would highly suggest you wait until you get an email stating that the camera is shipping to you.
As was mentioned above.. by then you will see more BMCC related accessories will be available.. I can imagine there will be many cool things at the next NAB!

This might be a good thread to resurrect on this topic: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2579

Check out these items. I've been using them for the past few months on my DSLR shoots and they're great.

http://www.wondlan.com/product/260-5d2-power-supply-system-wondlan-8934/

The battery is about $180, the travel charger for the battery, I paid $35, and the power support system I paid $75.

The battery is a Dynacore battery.

No strangeness yet. They seem to be working fine. Since it's from China, I paid $20 shipping.

Ikan also has options reasonably priced: http://www.ikancorp.com/productfamily.php?id=74

I'd definitely buy those if I didn't already have mine.

And this battery plate: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/3 ... Plate.html

Thanks for the help, I guess the advice of waiting until I see the camera shipping may yield better results.

I purchased from a dealer who had zero backorders. - but just ordered the camera. - They told me delivery should be 4th Quarter. - I am hoping that is not 4th quarter 2013. -

I have a great job opportunity, that we wanted to switch to this amazing camera from our DSLR solution. Just for the colorspace. We have a pilot to shoot, so I guess I should look at renting one - does anyone own a BMCC in Colorado and is for hire?

I am thinking it is not a reality that I will see this camera ship this year. -

BM must be filling all the back orders first, then looking to the dealers for orders. - My dealer has no orders ahead of me, but I suppose this means nothing. - any advice on that thought?

(I can't wait to get it and rig it up!)

The battery plate looks like the most affordable option I have seen to date for more power. -

Does anyone else have any Rokinon experience? I liked reading about those from One River Media. - (that inspired me to get this camera in the first place, what a great video)

The interview we did with Frank Glencairn he gives an idea of what he thinks you should buy first. http://tinyurl.com/cr8ssrr
