Rigging and BTS Photos

Since last Thursday (August 23rd), I've been shooting and adding more and more photos of the camera to an album on our Facebook page. Photos include different rigging setups, lenses, mounting, and we're just starting to roll in some behind-the-scenes photos of a shoot we did last Saturday night.

I've been extremely pleased with my Sigma 8-16 on the Cinema Camera. A *lot* less angular distortion than my Canon 8-15mm and my Rokinon 8mm and doesn't seem to show any barrel distortion at all. It's a bit slower than I'd like, and it definitely doesn't have the build quality as the Canon, but it works great and even at 8mm I can still mount my ARRI MMB-1 mattebox, which was designed to go very wide. Couple that with the fact the MMB-1 is perfectly aligned with the Viewfactor cage (as I mention with photo on my Facebook page), everything is basically a really well matched system together. Really, really nice. We actually ended up using the Sigma 8-16 quite a lot for the shoot.

I was hoping you were going to say it's got less angular distortion. Shame that it's not as fast as you wanted. I was thinking of buying this lens and using it to record some local bands in a fairly dark venue...more put the tripod in the back of the room and get the whole band in shot, maybe the occasional zoom and then crop in in the edit....sorry to be a pain but do you think the lens would work for this purpose?

I should also mention the venues won't be huge..

p.s I'm about 70% ready to bite the bullet and order one of those cages that you've got on your bmc, it seems to fit so well..looks great.

Is the Rokinon 8mm still a viable lens in your opinion?
