With Uncompressed Raw the camera is outputting 513mb/s.

Lexar 3600x = Max. Write Speed: 445 MB/s

Lexar 3400x - Write Speed: 450 MB/s

Transcend CFX650 128GB = 370 MB/s Write Speed

With further testing, I have confirmed that in dual card mode the Lexar 3600x does indeed correctly record 4.6k RAW at 60fps.

While I wait for lenses to arrive, I ran some preliminary tests (with the lens cap on the URSA Mini 4.6K PL) on two of the approved Wise cards I have. The cards are, I believe, only rated up to 330 MB/s write and 510 MB/s read. I tested all combinations of RAW and ProRes for all sensor windows currently enabled with maximum sensor frame rates.

The tests aren't fair in that a recorded frame never was larger than 6.5 MB due to the lack of any real light so it was only recording sensor noise. Nonetheless the only combination that failed, while recording to a single card, was the raw open gate at 60 fps. I could do 57 fps. The important takeaway was those 57 fps raw black frames represented a sustained data rate of 370MB/s on a card rated for 330 MB/s!

Based on that data rate, it looks like these Wise cards will be good for single card recording of every frame size except the full sensor open gate. So if you plan on shooting DCI 4K 4096x2160 or as I do, the 2.4:1 4608x1920 window, the Wise will do the trick.

These are preliminary results but I'll update if shooting with a lens gives me different results.

Okay did some more testing, with the lens cap on, of the Wise cards. Blackmagic Speed Test shows sustained writes of over 380MB/s with sustained reads over 375MB/s. But what is interesting is the frame sizes I'm getting with raw are about 8.7MB each when I'm successfully recording at 54 fps. That's about 470MB/s write speed sustained for a few minutes. And this is on a single card, not dual recording. I continue to be able to record raw in DCI 4K and 2.4:1 4608x1920 at 60 fps single card.

I can't explain how these cards are doing that. I'm wondering if there is either new firmware on these cards or the cards are just super efficient writing video streams. In any event, take with a grain of salt until I retest with real images, not a black screen.

Does the 256GB Transcend CFX600 work in a URSA mini 4K EF? (the CFX600 not the CFX650!)

I am aware, that it is not officially supported and would probably be too slow for RAW recording, but I would only need it for ProRes LT (in 4K roughly 50MB/sec). The question is: Does the camera accept it at all?

Thanks,

Daniel

There seems to be a new brand out on the market. Anyone have had experience with these ones?

I guess it seems legitimate? It's stated to support an Ursa Mini 4.6k..

Any of the cards on our supported list for RAW record will work well for 4K ProRes 444 or XQ.

I tested the discontinued 256GB Lexar Professional 3400x (510MB/s). It seems to drop frames when filming 60fps in lossless 4.6K RAW (2.4:1). Frame dropping started after exactly 30 seconds of smooth recording.

Is there any card out there, that can handle this setting?

No. Uncompressed raw @ 60fps requires putting the camera in dual card mode.

What about approved cards for 3:1 120fps 4k on the big ursa v2???
I just received mine today, and am testing with the lexar 3600 and its dropping frames all over the place...
in prores 422 120 too...

My tests are not going well, I couldn't wait for the 4.6 mini (*which i have on order) but if today is still dropping frames, this camera is going right back to BandH,... Black magic I loved you guys but you game is seriously slipping, every day i'm getting closer to a RED... :{ which is unfortunate as i think they are way overpriced, and I despise the fanboydom that surrounds their cameras, but comm'on guys can't you do anything your specs say they will do?

Very disappointed.

After a few months of using the Biwin 256gb CFast cards, I have experience drop frames in 4K RAW as slow as 24fps. This usually became more pronounced when the cards got hotter. All 4 of my cards exhibited same symptoms. Lee Miller With Biwin sales was very helpful and have arranged to get mine replaced. I recently sent it back to Hong Kong and we shall see what happens with the replacements and the general consensus of the Biwin cards. I shall report back in due time. :) Meanwhile I got a couple Transcend 256GB CFX650 cards for my recent project and they work like a charm.

Has anyone experienced frame drops using the Transcend CFX650 256GB shooting on the URSA MINI 4K in Lossless RAW at 23.98 fps? It's happened a few times. I switched card readers thinking it happened in the transfer. Not sure if I ought to switch 4:1 or 3:1 RAW. We have been shooting a movie on the Production 4k in RAW with no issues. I switched cameras after the bulk of the movie and having these issues on our pick ups. I shoot ProRes mostly for other work. Please advise. Thanks. Rich

Those Transcend cards should be good with those speeds for recording 4K Lossless RAW at 23.98 to a single card. If you are running our general release 4.0 software there is an option on page three of the record menu where you can choose to stop recording if you have dropped any frames. It will mean it is impossible to not notice if you are dropping frames.

In 4.0 we also added a notification, even if you don't have this feature switched on where the dropped frame warning exclamation mark remains present when you have dropped frames on a previous clip. If you keep an eye on this it will warn you that the last clip had dropped frame until you power cycle the camera, or hit record again.

Thanks Tim. I have noticed the exclamation marks on the beta 4.0. I did not see it when it happened on a shoot this past week. Is it the card that is dropping frames or the camera? Will shooting 3:1 or 4:1 be better to insure that we don't drop frames? I rarely shoot raw only for 1 production. I just need to make my clien feel secure moving forward.

Hi Lee. I don't see Biwin on the list of supported BMD cards yet. Since you are advertising here on the forum, I'm guessing you have tested them with the Ursa Mini. Do they work at the same resolutions and frame rates as other supported cards like the Lexar 3500x, or no?

Hi Jamie, eventually the BiWin cards will be certified, we're just working on one thing which is slowing down the process. These cards are suitable for certain resolutions listed on the BiWin.co.uk website but do not offer as many as Lexar just yet. They are kind of a medium between price and performance. But like I say, all resolutions are possible when dual-carding; combining two cards together in the same camera. Many of our customers own a Mini and they work just fine. Please check out my eBay ratings and comments. http://www.ebay.com/usr/drkooler.
Anymore questions, please feel free to ask :)

We have just added the SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB and 256GB 'D' series CFast 2.0 cards to our supported list. Previous firmware SanDisk CFast cards are still not supported as there were some firmware issues with them... but as of today the SanDisk 'D' series 128GB and 256GB CFast cards are certified for ProRes and RAW recording and are listed in our manual.

Just so you know how to identify these cards - they are the ones with the product codes ending in D.
So for these two cards the codes are SDCFSP-128G-x46D and SDCFSP-256G-x46D.

'x' will vary from region to region in the product code (A for the USA, J for Japan, Z for China, D for Australia/New Zealand, and 'G' for the rest of the world) but what you want to look out for is the 'D' at the end which shows they are the new series of cards.

They also have a D on the back of the card in the bottom left corner.

I already tested the Angelbird Cards and I absolutely love them. Used (and still using) the blue Wise Cards too. But since the Angelbirds are out I'll only buy these now because they are significantly cheaper then the Wise Cards here in Austria and I also want to support a local brand (they are a company from my town). But just for the record: I don't know any of the people working there and I'm not an affiliate from the company or anything. For me they are just the best bang for the buck (right now at least).

Here's also a very short proof that everything works fine:

The Wise CFast 2.0 cards that are on the BMD certified list are their Blue label cards. Wise also makes Green label cards that are less expensive. The cards have been tested and the Green label 256GB 3400x card has been tested by Wise and passed. Wise also makes a Blue label 512GB card but that runs slower and not likely interesting to URSA/Mini owners. Wise Green label 3300x 256 GB cards can work at lower frame rates, but the Green label 128GB cards are not suitable and I don't expect BMD will include those in their list of certified cards. Vendors will offer a significant cost saving for the Green cards.

Just because one card from a manufacturer is on the list, doesn't mean that different similar models and different capacities from the same manufacturer will pass. Even if it lists that it is higher speed.

Not all card media are created equal.

We only list cards that we have tested extensively and certified for recording footage continuously on our cameras.
