Work my old manual Nikon lenses with the BlackmagicCinema?

PostTue Aug 28, 2012 2:37 am

Hi, I have a kit of old manual Nikon lenses, one MicroNikor 55/2.8 and one 28mm/2.8 series E, that work perfectly with my actual NikonD7000. Does the Blackmagic Cinema camera accept them?

As it´s more or less the same topic I add my question here. What about old FD canon lenses? Same problem with sharpness as when used on a EOS 5D?

I own 3 Fotodiox lens mount adapters, for GH2/FS100/BMCC, all from their "pro" line.

I recommend against the Fotodiox "consumer" adapters, unless they have improved the designs. I bought one of their consumer Nikon F to FS100 adapters and it had a serious light leak (!) that was a design failure, not a manufacturing defect.

But I've had excellent results using the Fotodiox "pro" adapters. Cheers.

Thanks for the hints, the Fotodiox Pro adapter sounds interesting. The only problem with most optical adapters I know is an unacceptable loss of image quality, sharpness included. As I´m not sure whether FD lenses are designed and can be used for HD video at all, it would be interesting to know if there are any direct comparisons available between adapted FD lenses and for example EF L lenses without using an adapter on a Videocam with EF mount. Has anybody experience with this or knows of a corresponding link?

Thanks in advance,
Klaus

Manual Nikon lenses will absolutely work with the Cinema Camera. Canon FD lenses will work the same as using them on other EF mount cameras... not so well as they require a focus plane. I bought many such adapters a few years ago with poor results (I still have a nice collection of fast FD primes). A shame as those lenses would be stunning on this camera of the focus planes could match. But anyway, Nikons will work great with said F-to-EF adapter, as pictured here from our Facebook page:

Hi Marco,

Thanks for your message, that´s what I´ve thought. It´s a real shame as I still own almost all of the fast FD lenses from wide angle to telephoto lens. I will have to spend some money for EF lenses when I get my BMDCC, I guess ;)... . I have a pre-order running but it will still take a while before I get the camera. The rig on your photo looks great. Who´s the manufacturer?

Best regards,
Klaus
