Firmware updates future question.

PostTue Feb 17, 2015 10:25 am

Hello this is my first post and I have a few questions.

I have been following BM for about a year now and have been wanting to jump on board. With the new update to URSA firmware I can honestly say I am about to pull the trigger. However I have some questions.

The Cinema DNG 3:1 is one awesome update for me, and solves a lot of the reasons I was holding back. However I do have a few questions.

Will this update be applied to BMPC 4k? ( Same sensor) and the BMCC 2.5k?
If Cinema DNG 3:1 is applied to the BMPC, and BMCC. Will these camera finally surpass the 30fps? to 60 FPS?

or is this just wishful thinking?

Any insights will be great. I love how BM has made me rethink cameras, and the efforts provided.
thank you

Almost definitely no.
If you require 60fps you will have to purchase a camera that supports it.
This has been discussed many times in other threads.

The maximum framerate will be a performance factor of reading image data from the sensor.
That has nothing to do with the final saved format to the card or disk regardless of whether the file format uses compression.
That's like saying it will increase a computer's CPU speed by saving zip compressed files to disk. :)

Ahh ok,

I know that the 4k had the same sensor as the URSA, but I guess not the same setup.

If you need 60fps,,then you should look at the BM URSHA camera, it supports faster frame rates.

Your post may fool some into believing the 2.5k's lack of 50/60fps frame rate support (even at a reduced resolution) is a result of something other than the fact that it is bad business to undercut your own product. The majority BMCC4k users aren't shooting 4k on 50% of their projects that they're paid for. High selling point for spending that extra 1000$ on at least the 4K is the frame rate.
