Schneider Kreuznach Arriflex lenses

PostWed May 20, 2015 6:44 am

Does anybody have experience with using Schneider Kreuznach Arriflex Cine Xenon lenses on a BMPCC?
There's a 10mm and 16mm version and I was wondering if the 10mm will cover the whole image or if vignetting will be visible.
Besides that I am curious about people's opinion on these lenses.

The 10 and 16 mm's in that test are the Schneider Cinegons - different from the Xenons. I have the 10 and 16 Cinegons, never used the Xenons, though I understand Xenons do exist in 10, 16 as well as 25 and 50.

The 10 Cinegon (with the 55mm thread front - there is a version that has a smaller front and vignettes on the Pocket) is my favorite walk around lens. As in that test, pretty good sharpness and vintage contrast, low distortion, darker in the corners, but not a hard vignette and not bothersome. Has only four iris blades, so reflections/bokeh highlights part closed are square. My 16 Cinegon is also as in that test, noticeably softer, and the bokeh is so swirly from uncorrected spherical aberrations it is almost like a special effects lens. Both of mine were serviced by Schneider so are performing as well as they were designed to.

I second that Schneider 10mm Cinegon (55mm front), gorgeous lens on the BMPCC. I tested it against the Eastern Zeiss Tevidon and sold the latter…
Mine is C-Mount, I don't know if there is a Arriflex one with the same optical formula.

All Xenons I tried don't cover, BTW, but I was looking for wides only.
Now that the cat #19 is out of the bag, test it as much as you can and use the subforum.

Thanks for the info guys!
I've picked up a Schneider 16mm and I can't wait to start playing around with it.

I'm interested in this same type of lens. Arriflex Xenon for $180 on eBay.
Have you tested yours on the BMPCC?

Would love any opinions of it you found.
