DJI Ronin

PostMon Aug 24, 2015 1:37 pm

Hi all,

I'm wondering if anybody has solved the battery issue when using the BMPC 4k with a DJI Ronin? I'm afraid to go ahead and buy the DJI Ronin if I can't keep my camera operating for more than the 40 minutes I can expect to get with the native battery!

As an aside, what setup would you recommend for monitoring using the DJI Ronin?

Thank you in advance for your time and advice,

Evan

For powering the camera i built a really short cable d-tap connector / dc connector that I plug on Ronin base. It keeps my camera and gimbal working for 2hrs+ while using only the gimbal a battery lasts about 4 hours. Luckily charging a Ronin battery takes only one hour, so I never run out of power. If you don't want to build your own cable, google dtap BMCC, but make sure it is short or it will hang from the Ronin.

For monitoring BMCC I use a cheap hdmi monitor with a sdi-hdmi converter. Monitor powered with its own NP batteries, converter powered by roning usb port.

For controlling the camera I have the manfrotto lanc handle, which allows me to autofocus, pull focus (fixed speed sadly) and trigger rec.

Why not buy a Switronix Battery Base, screw that to the bottom of the camera, and mount it that way? This way, your Ronin will last a few hours longer and your camera will last a few hours longer too?

I have a Ronin and I'm thinking about doing this, although currently I'm flying the Pocket on it to keep it light so I haven't invested in the Switronix battery base yet. The only thing that's a downside is the weight.

Just curious.

I run a dtap from the switronix to the camera. Monitor using a DP7. Battery and monitor both mounted on the handle bar. Trust me you don't want to mount the battery to the camera - affects the centre of gravity.

It gets tiring! I can survive a 3minutes take after which I yell cut and hand over to the AC or place on a nearby C-Stand!

Olan

What kind of cable are you using for the Monitor? Because the hd sdi cable is too thick for the Dji Ronin M and interferes with it
