It looks pretty crazy, but it works quite well. It balances really well on the shoulder and one battery powers it all for 3-4 hours. I've also got a KinoGrip coming, which will be a welcome addition to the rig.

But that EVF is really stellar. As good, if not better, as the EVF on my Fuji X-T1.

Wooden camera sell an bmd evf mod that looks fantastic. Basically made so you can use the evf on cameras that aren't the ursa. There's a video on their website that shows it off as well as a tutorial on putting it together. It's $300usd if that kind of thing is up your alley.

This looks really good for cinematography even on the Mini. Much more flexibility placing the EVF. I'm tempted to get the mod myself.
Probably won't because it's not easily reversible and the design of the EVF integrates very well with the Mini.

That's what I thought really. But I thought I'd share anyway.

Well anyone worth their salt is going to have at least two cameras and two BMVFs! Put one on the Mini as intended for shoulder mounted movement and the other on sticks with the modded EVF mount. Problem solved!

Good idea Rick, now all we need is $3500 for a Mini, $400 for the shoulder kit and battery plate, and $3,300 for two EVFs and one WC mod kit!

Hello everyone, I just recieve my Viewfinder and I mounted it on the big URSA. Works like a charm, this is the best I have ever seen by far !
The question is : is it possible to shut down the screens inside when the big screen is closed ? If not, what a shame to use so much of the battery when using the viewfinder...

Thanks in advance

I thought it turned off its screen when your face wasn't pressed against it.

And draining the battery from having an EVF on constantly is something we photogs have been dealing with for years. That's why we bring a few batteries and an AC adapter to even a "little" shoot. What a shame it was, indeed. It's nice to have more forgiving tools today.

Deyan, I'm sure I once read that the URSA 10" monitor is turned off when the screen door is closed. I'm sure that inside 5" monitor would follow the same logic, but not the left side 5" monitor that remains exposed since you could still have an assistant camera/sound recordist monitoring that screen.

I have a question: What Eyecushion should I get for the Viewfinder? More specially what size? I'm looking at a Bluestar Oval Small Fleece Eyecushion. and think that should be good. Want to be sure by checking to see what others have found.

I'm looking at Green for my color. Not that that is of any importance.

BlueStar large round may be a better choice:

The ‘kanü big’ from Lentequip fits our EVF well

The ‘large round’ from Bluestar fits too

Morning all,

A quick technical question- would the ursa evf run off of the dtap from a v mount battery? I believe it's a 14.4v power supply- I was going to try it with my bmcc but didn't want to fry it!

It works great on my ursa just wanted a bit of extra flexibility for more portable shoots

Thanks

This might be an interesting article for people who want to adapt the Ursa viewfinder with their cameras on cinema5D:

Yes, it will take 14.4V. I checked with New Magic before powering up mine. Now it happily runs from the p-dap connection on my v-lock battery.

Hi all, it's Eli here from Bluestar. I'd like to answer your questions regarding Eyecushions for the BM EVF. We have many Eyecushions that can be successfully used on a BM EVF, so please review below:

1. We have recently designed a Black Magic Special Use Eyecushion SKU#3033 that replaces the original rubber eyecup if it has been lost or gone missing. It is an extra thick design that stretches around the eyepiece. I recently met with Kristian Lam at the 2018 Las Vegas NAB regarding this new design.
2. Our ARRI Special Eyecushion SKU#3014 fits the BM EVF perfectly. It is a special design that is extremely comfortable given there is no fused or stitched edge.
3. Our Oval Small SKU#6011 fits the BM EVF very well.
4. Our Oval Extra Small SKU#6010 fits the BM EVF like a glove.
5. Our Round Large SKU#2012 is a non-direction design that fits the BM EVF very nicely.

Hope this helps.
Eli
