I don't know about PDMOVIE.

The Redrock has worked for me on a feature with CP.2 lenses. However, I've heard that it doesn't do well on bigger lenses or ones whose rings need a lot of torque.

I've been using the Red Rock Micro with CP.2 lenses as well, and it's been working great for us. I haven't tried it with anything requiring more torque so far.

I don't own one but I am interested in Motiondogs' Lenz Hound ciine kit. Anyone have experience with that one?

I own the Redrock and CP.2 and Zeiss ZF.2 Duclos lenses. Never a problem and you can adjust the torque. My AC has the CineGears FF and is very happy with it: http://www.cinegears.com/lens-control-kit-2/

Any of you seen this?

https://www.cinema5d.com/redrock-halo-a ... low-focus/

The new halo system from redrock.

I am thinking would this kind of system work on a gimbal, such as the Letus Helix Jr? or regular helix

The receiver is in the motor. I kinda like that - takes up less space. 6 to 1/2 dozen of the other. Both are good. I would consider, if you can, rent both and try them out. You can rent the Redrock here: http://www.lensrentals.com/search?q=follow+focus

I am not sure where you can rent the Cinegear FF.

I had bartech and m one motors. Really good and powerful. But a little noisy on high speed focus changes. I now have the pdmovie- it is light and drives all my ef lenses fine. Again with high speed focus changes the motor is noisy. The pdmovie is cheaper. The interface is a bit clunky but once you know it - it's fine and actually seems to have better small range focus control.

Yeah, that's not a knock off of Cinegears.

Cinegears is just the North American distribution of that same FF.

Lot of people seem to have problems with the cinegears.

How is the CameTV edition you bought ?

Good to know.
One third of the process of the Cinegears after tax here in Oz.

It's due to ship on October 12th.
Will review when it arrives.

https://www.cinema5d.com/redrock-halo-a ... low-focus/

Guess I need to work out if this 'halo' system will also work on gimbals?

The fact that RedRock offers a lifetime warranty makes their MicroRemote follow focus very appealing. The new DJI Focus Paul just posted the video for looks very appealing too as I will be using the follow focus on my Ronin, it only requires a power cable and the receiver is built into the motor unit. The fingerwheel accessory for the RedRock MicroRemote is another awesome feature that wins out over other brands while I make my purchasing decision.

Yes ... I have the finger wheel and use it on my Steadicam, but it would be great for handheld, too. Truly, an awesome feature.

So my Came-TV Wireless Follow Focus arrived today.
It seems well built and I cannot tell the difference with the Cinegears from pictures.

The transmitter has adjustable hard stops which is not documented on the website anywhere.

This feature matches the same on the top Cinegears model, the Express Plus which sells in a kit for $2229 while the Came-TV version is $880.
There seems to be a small amount of play when the motor changes direction.
I'm not sure if this is normal or acceptable since this is the first remote of it's type that I have owned.

Only zero play is acceptable.

Agreed, having any play at all is a problem when you're trying to be precise with focus, especially using large sensors like super35 on a wide open lens. Even on a 25mm, when shooting at T/2.1, if you're even slightly off, it can easily be enough to ruin a shot, and if it's a shot with more than a single focus pull, some play in the focus controller can ruin your timing and make it quite difficult to nail focus.

Re: Remote Follow focus for ursa mini / ursa

So I have been doing some experiments with the Came-TV WFF, which is a clone of, if not a re-badged Cinegears Express Plus kit.
On my initial play with this remote I found there is a very slight clicking sound when changing directions.
I took this to mean there was a corresponding lag but now after more experiments I believe there is no significant lag. The WFF responds instantaneously and accurately.
I have seen a lot of controversial discussion about the Cinegears WFF on the Reduser forum and it did concern me. Cinegears state that there is correcting software that takes into account play in the gears and speeds up the response to mitigate any lag. This software is similar to that used in CNC machines for the same purpose.
I hooked up the Ursa EVF to my pocket and the WFF to a Sigma 18-35+SB.
I am not adept at the use of a Wireless Follow Focus but based on my experience so far, this one exceeds my needs for responsiveness. Visually, any lag is imperceptible, despite the audible clicking.

How's the on/off behavior? If the receiver loses power, can you turn it back on w/o having to recalibrate the system? My use case is for wedding use on a ronin, where quick start/stop needed.

Also, how's the noise? I'd be replacing my lenzhound, which unfortunately is quite loud.

The transmitter and receiver both return to settings that were there before power went off.
The receiver is built into the motor.
The motor/receiver is very quiet, much quieter than the lenses I'm using.

I recently tried the WFF on a proper cine lens, the SLR Magic 50mm APO PL and it works very well, the only limitation being the rotational play and looseness of my current setup, EF lens, PL to EF mount adapter - EF to MFT Speedbooster to BMPCC.
I bought this system for the Ursa Mini PL.
Without the play in adapters and EF/MFT mounts I expect the WFF will behave even better.

This is actually incorrect. We designed the system from the ground up (I have some very early prototypes sitting beside me, in fact), and it is indeed patented. We have a video on youtube illustrating some of the shortcomings of the came-tv model compared to the Cinegears original. I can't post the link, but it is easily found under the title "Came Tv Products and Cinegears products are not the same thing".
