micro cinema questions

PostMon Oct 05, 2015 1:22 pm

Hey,

- does anyone know if the micro cinema offers stabalisation through the body ?
- probably a silly question but what dynamic range does the micro studio have and can it save as pro-res? Any particular advantages going with the micro studio if I'm interested more in the 'cine look'
- Is it worth buying a discounted pocket camera over the micro cinema? Mainly doing VFX shots.

Thanks!

No. BM don't have any camera that can do in body stabilisation.

It should match the BMCC and BMPCC. There might be a slight hit on the DR when shooting in Global SHutter but this is still to be confirmed. It will be able to record in CinemaDNG RAW and various versions of ProRes (422 HQ, 422, LT and Proxy)

Well the pocket is available now. The Micro has not started shipping yet and when it does will be a while before it's available on the shelf as there are probably a lot of pre-orders waiting to be for-filled.

The global shutter in the Micro would be very useful for VFX work tho.

There are differences between the micro 'cinema' and 'studio'.

But to sum it up, the 'cinema' will most likely look more "cine" than the 'studio' because of a higher dynamic range. The 'studio' doesn't record internally, but does offer 4K (UHD) externally. Don't think the 'studio' has a global shutter either as nothing is mentioned on the tech specs page.

Also, the Studio is not a digital film camera. It's a TV camera that shoots interlaced.

All of the studio cameras shoot progressive too.

Ah, yes, I checked right after I posted. For some reason I thought they didn't.

It's actually funny because I remember some people (if I recall correctly) complaining about not being able to get a true interlaced signal from them in the early days before a few firmware updates.

However, the Micro Cinema camera (not the Micro Studio 4K) doe not output an interlaced signal, progressive only. So if you want a Broadcast I terraced standard signal, you need the "Studio" version, not the "Cinema" model. Cheers
