URSA Mini - audio?

PostFri Nov 06, 2015 9:29 am

Hi,

I have the BMCC 2,5k, and is interested in upgrading to URSA Mini.

Has anybody in here tested the URSA Mini? How is the audio? Is it possible to get a good sound quality using microports directly in the camera (interviews, testimonials, etc.)? - as most of you probably know, audio is a big challenge using the BMCC.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

Cheers

This issue with using in camera (built in mics) is,
they pick up the camera's fan noise as a low background noise (Micro 4K which is very quiet, the mic picked up fan noise as +1 to 2 dB level). The Micro 4K mics would work very well for general location sounds, or as a scratch track, better than the BMCC. (Edited to correct typos)

I'm hoping that the mic preamps in the Ursa Mini are decent. On-camera mics aren't generally good for dialog recording, the camera usually isn't in the spot that the mics need to be.

I don't think Stopher was talking about in-camera microphones. Rather he was asking how good the quality of the audio-in section of the Ursa Mini is compared to the very bad audio-in section of the BMCC.
Saying "Thx for help!" is not a crime.

Ya I think audio tests would be more useful with the 4K version since we are already familiar with the image.

Yes that would be a very useful test.
I am also hoping there is no need for a separate mic-pre etc
Anyone who has the 4k mini, a test would be greatly appreciated

+1 on a audio test with hot line feed from an external quality mic pre, and a direct mic input to rest the camera's mic pre amps.
