2048 x 1152 (2K 16:9) Storage Rate

PostSun Dec 06, 2015 9:06 pm

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if URSA mini can record 2K 2048 x 1152 ProRes 444 and 422 HQ? Or that is a RAW resolution only?

Anyway, I don't see the storage rate for that resolution mentioned anywhere. Can anyone share that information please?

Thank you.

An hour of 2048x1152 ProRes 444 is about 2.75GB (give or take). An hour of the same material at ProRes 422 is 1.37GB. If it's for color correction, I'd rather have the 444 provided the material is 10-bit. If it's for delivery, the specs are up to the client.

I'd check my math... I usually see about a Gig a minute for 1080 ProRes 422 @23.98 so expecting a bit more for "2K."

Alex, I believe the DCI 2K 2048x1152 and 4K 4096x2304 frames are windowed only and raw only. HD 1920x1080 and UHD 3840x2160 are ProRes either downscaled from the full sensor 4608x2592 or directly from the windows.

For information about ProRes data rates, refer to the tables starting on page 21 in Apple's white paper:

And the type of Ursa Mini is a factor. The 4.6K has a helluva lot more options than the 4K, and it can indeed do DCI 2K in raw. I would imagine the 4.6K in 2K mode will do around 105MB/s in 3:1 raw as that is the data rate for the BMCC at 2.4K in 3:1 raw. Sooooooo....imagine the 4.6K at DCI 2K 3:1 raw at 30fps uses around 100MB/s. All the specs of the cameras are listed in their manuals or on their product page, except for Ursa Mini 4.6K, to date, does not have all its information available. And the Ursa manual only has 4K model info.

Ursa Mini 4K does not do 2K.

A really useful tool - if you have a smart phone - is to use AJA DataCalc. It's a free app and makes all those calculations a breeze.

Can you customize AJA DataCalc? It doesn't have any BMD settings off the shelf. Sony, Canon, AJA, Red, no BMD.

Lee, I use it but it's not custom content so of limited value for the latest and greatest options we may be curious about. Unfortunate.

Might also have something to do with AJA's CION being a direct competitor to the Ursa/Mini...
