Just the sort of thing needed-excellent. Would it be possible to see a taster, like a one page sample?

Can we expect an updated version once the new Firmware drops? Given how crappy manuals often are these days, it'd be great to have a solid reference on hand.

Hi Cris

Once purchased a URL is then automatically sent to download the book. This takes place within 5 minutes of payment being received. Obviously in your case there has been an issue, and of I course I will send you the link straight away.

It could be that the link ended up in your spam/junk mail or was somehow rejected by your internet provider along the way.

So for anyone else purchasing - if you haven't received an email with download link within minutes of payment being made, then email me and I will send out the download link to you straight away! There has been many many sales over the last few days and only 3 issues with people not receiving links.

Cheers - catch you all soon,

Rick

Thanks Rick, just wondering how you can release a book about the camera, when everything there is to know is online? I love you Rick, been a fan for years and the price of the book is more than fair, I'm just one of those "Learn by doing" types and need that extra push to purchase any "User Guides" that claim a faster way to use a simple thing?
Besides are you not missing all the future firmware updates?
Will you release free guides for them as they are released?

Anyway I'm not here to preach the gospel, just sayin!

UPDATE: I wanted to add to my post since this book would be very useful for many... Just not me.

I think Rick has a winner here for many users who are unfamiliar
with using cameras other than DSLR's
He has had the camera longer than GOD,
and Has proven he knows how it works by posting amazing videos.

My love of cameras comes from usage,
I want and I need to work with it before I ask for help using it,
It's just how I am, For years I never read any Manuals, or blogs on how to get the look I wanted from any camera, Simply put, I think the fun and quality of my work comes from experimenting with a camera.

Cheers Rick I wish you all the best!

Hi Darryl

Thanks for all the comments, and understood where you are coming from.

Just a few points:

(i) yes - the book will be updated to include the latest firmware info. and whoever has purchased the book will receive the updated book for free

(ii) the BM Cinema Camera is an easy camera to use and many would not need a book for this, however, the book is more than an instruction manual; it features info. which is not easy to get elsewhere. I myself found getting to grips with DaVinci Resolve quite difficult - the Resolve workflow info. is something I could have used myself as working with RAW is new to many many people

(iii) I have sample pages to post which will be available in the next few days - so you can all check out the style and layout of the book without having to purchase. Standby - will advise once this is online and ready to download.

Cheers - thanks for your post which I found very much worth reading.

Catch you soon,

Rick

Rick!

I've loved the video reviews you have done and the one for this camera helped a ton.

Curious about this book (which I'm probably buying tonight): does it cover Resolve from a newb's perspective. I completely understand grading and principles but have yet to open it. Saw that there were some server aspects to it and kind of scared me from opening it until I could devote some time to it. Is this part of the book? Do you do the user creation steps and such?

Hi David

The answer is YES - the book does cover DaVinci Resolve for a completely new user. This was part of my motivation to write the book!

Of all the things to do with the Blackmagic Cinema Camera, working with Resolve was something I had a steep learning curve with - so to present an easy way to deal with Resolve is an important part of what this book is about.

You can download some sample pages of the book for free at:

Brilliant work, Rick.

Would this be beneficial for a pocket cinema cam user? If not, do you have any plans to make one after the release of the pocket?

Didn't learn much from this manual, but the interviews was an interesting read. I like that you don't cut away sentences. It actually feels like you're a part of the interview, and makes it more human.

Does you book cover creating proxies/working with them, correct way to work with RAW footage and working with Premier + Resolve to bring timelines back and forth?

New user here, reading FAQs and such before diving in with questions. But about this book, this discussio thread is from 2013, so is the book still being updated for newer BM cameras? If not, is there other books that can be recommended?

Thnaks.
