12g SDI Cables??

PostThu Mar 24, 2016 5:03 am

Where do you guys get your 12g SDI cables? I need one to go from the 4.6K camera to the BMD video assist. I checked several online companies including B&H and nobody has them. I found one on Amazon that is a 3ft cable but shipping is almost as much as the cable. Why the drought of cables in the 12G SDI world?

Save your money, the VIdeo Assist is only 6G SDI anyway. So any new high bandwidth SDI cable, like new Canarie SDI cable is going to work. Look for terms like 4K ready or 2K in thrmsdimcsbles description, and yiu should be fine. More info on SDI cables on the " Live Production" Forum.

12g won't go very far down copper. Belden don't even rate it on their transmission charts but you can expect around 1/4 of the distance of 3G. If 12g becomes a thing that is widely accepted it will generally be sent via fibre not copper cables.

Tom, I think he is only looking for a 18-inch to 3-foot patch cable to connect a monitor to a camera, not a long switcher run.
