Ursa mini 4.6k @ 1080p. Whats the quality like?

PostFri Mar 25, 2016 3:25 pm

Hi all, does any one know what is the quality like and the field of view on the ursa mini at 1080p prores? Is is the same full sensor? is the quality per pixel very good, or do you get a lot more moire and aliasing on the image vs 4.6k?

Thank you.

You can shoot ProRes recording in 1920x1080 either in a window for sensor frame rates over 60 fps or using the open gate sensor read outs 4608x2592. It's your choice. You can also shoot in the 1080 window with slower frame rates if you want the Super 16 look or are using Super 16 lenses.

If you want to shoot raw to record in camera in 1080p, then you will only have the window option. You could shoot raw 4608x2592 and downscale your debayered footage in post.

Edit:
Actually I think the raw window is the 2K 2048x1152 window, not the HD 1920x1080 window. HD is ProRes in camera.

Thank you Rick, the other question is, how is the quality. Would it have more aliasing and moare than 4.6k?

If you shoot HD using the full sensor, your aliasing and moiré should be less prevalent than if you shoot in the HD window. Unless you need to use the window because you are shooting above 60 fps or because you are using Super 16 lenses, you will likely always shoot with the full sensor and downscale in camera to UHD or HD ProRes.
