I have not been able to find info on their site. Too soon after NAB maybe?
The video states under $2000.00 and they will rehouse if you already have the EVF.

Yeah didn't find it either. Sounds good, would rather have it done then do it myself, I don't trust myself. Wonder what the turn around time is

$2K for the 'Contraption' and $1500 for the VF. That is $3500.

Why not just buy another view finder ?

I mean, the Item seems kool but there are VFs like the Gratical (just to mention one) which at a lower price yields perhaps even better results. IMO :)

I've spoken with Tilta and they are saying it will be closer to $1800 in total cost. Which would include the BMD URSA Viewfinder plus mod.

The Wooden Camera modification scares me a bit because it's a DIY solution. So, if you screw up making the modification then you're voiding the warranty on the URSA Viewfinder and up a creek without a paddle. I think the Tilta solution is better because you're sending it in to them, so if they break it then it's on them. That's my 2-cents.

I thought that that would be the case from the video.

I had hoped that BMD would have come out with it's own mod at NAB.

Alas not to be.

Thanks for checking

Still pretty surprised Blackmagic Design didn't just make a universal version of the EVF for this year's NAB...seemed like a pretty obvious thing to do...just a slightly different body with a rosette on the side or something, basically what Wooden Camera and now Tilta are already doing.

Very shortly I will publish all the details Hot Rod Cameras Blackmagic URSA VF project. It solves multiple problems not address by others with "re-house" projects.

There's no physical mod so you don't void your warranty and we enhance the compatibility across more cameras then is otherwise available. You also get a better mounting solution for most cameras, there's also a couple other bonus features thrown in making it easily the least expensive and most feature rich solution available.

Sorry for being a tease.

Sounds interesting.

Did you guys ever come out with that Ronin-M mod last year, for use with the BMCC/BMPC4K?

Frightfully close now. Had to re-do one part, fingers crossed we expect our viewfinder announcement to go live by Independents day.

Also in regards to the Ronin-M mod, we abandoned the warranty-voiding mod after we learned that the CineMilled Pro Dovetail Platehttp://hotrodcameras.com/cinemilled-ronin-pro-dovetail.html?___SID=U allows you to balance the BMC-cameras by adding additional weights to the front, so you can put the body just behind the Ronin-M arms.

Mounting/dismount is still a bit odd, but at least it now can be done and the cameras will balance properly even if you are using a light lens, which previously was impossible.

Illya, please keep us posted. I'm looking forward to seeing your modification. Will you modify my existing EVF if I bring it in or only selling new ones?

Hi Illya,

Any word on the HRC mod for the viewfinder?

I have discovered that I am an eternal optimist. I regularly go to the HRC website to check on the progress. No news.
The same way I keep looking at BMD's support page to see if they have added false colour to the Video Assist.

The same way I keep checking the BMD Support page for the release of firmware 4.0 that I honestly naïvely expected by the end of June 2016. I think BMD's forums are chock full of optimists at heart. Some cranky optimists, but people are here because they believe they'll find the best value in a camera whether it be their low end or their high end. Okay, believe, eventually they'll find the best value! See, optimists.

Can someone from Blackmagic please respond to these questions.

Is there any reason why this modification should not be done by a third party?
Will this affect the warranty?

Over this past weekend I contacted Yang Shao, the CEO of Tilta North America via email. (From their website)

This is the response to my query of what happened to the modification of the Ursa EVF.

Hi Leon,
We still can do it for you if you want,
We locate at Burbank and you could drop off the unit.

The cost is $199.

FYI
Tilta now has a store in Burbank, California.

I've had several EVF's done with the wooden camera modification.

I don't believe the Tilta one ever came to be.

You void your warranty when you do something like this.

I have blown a wooden camera EVF. Hard to say whose fault it was but I am very careful to have plugged the power cable in before I power up the camera now.

It's still worth it. The mod makes the EVF much more useable. And I don't have the same panicked thoughts about what would happen if the moulded single factor SDI cable went bad.
