Daniel, I think the man playing bass had a face that deserves to be in a narrative film. If you do narrative film, cast him in something. A very expressive visage. Could be nice, could be nasty, I'll leave that up to you!

Yes, definitely. This man is playing Dana Fuchs Band (USA). His eyes sometimes scared me - really! I have a few such shots. Then, he is smiling at the camera. Incredible. To the US I have several thousand kilometers. But - the world is small :) Narrative Film - thank you for motivation, Rick.

I participated in a 77 Hour film project, under the umbrella of the 48 Hour Film Project organization. It was titled the "Four Points Film Project".

It was an 'online' event, and so I received an email with the mission statement at 7 pm my local time Friday, and had to submit a film or at least an MD5 hash of my film by 11:59 pm Monday, and all 'uploading' completed by 12:00 pm Tuesday. The MD5 hash would be compared with the uploaded media, and if it was not the same, the submission would be disqualified.

I had 3 other people on the project, 2 of whom have never 'made a film'... but we produced something...

There was a screening in a real theater, with DCP converted versions of our submission last week. It is the first time I've ever seen my material on something other than a computer screen or a home TV display.

I was not embarrassed by the big screen results. There many things that I will attend to next time, but the image quality from the BMPCC to the big screen was very good, so I won't worry so much about that and attend to such things as 'better sound' or 'better acting(hey this is my acting debut...)', and better production values... and maybe even better writing...

Tech details

BMPCC ISO 800 for the daytime shots, ISO 1600 for the night shots. Lumix 14-140 lens for the day shots, f/5.6-f/8 and final scene. Night shots Nikon 28mm f/2.0-f/2.8. 24 fps and RAW capture mode was used.

Resolve was used to color correct and generate a ProRes HQ master. While I did do some preliminary editing in Resolve, I exported the project to Premiere to do the final editing activities, and matching up the sound and dialog. Audition was used for the sound processing.

The final edited film clips were give a Unsharp mask filter with settings of 75% and a radius varying between 1-2. I set the viewing window on my computer to 200% and monitored the resulting 'sharpening' effects to avoid 'enhancing' any moire or line jaggies.

The final for DCP processing result was a MPeg4 output with bit rates of max 25 Mbs and target bit rate of 20 Mbs.

Hey John, I'm in San Diego and I participated in the Four Points, too. Our film was "2 out of 3" - the road trip to Vegas one that was screened last week, too.

Nice job on your film! Ours wasn't shot on anything Blackmagic, unfortunately, but I use the Pocket camera personally and am waiting on an order of the Ursa Mini 4K at work.

I thought that film was someone from Victorville... or did you just happen to be going to Las Vegas anyway???

.... and... why didn't you use your Pocket for the film???

Those 48HFP are so cool to do !!!

My film, done exclusively with friends... i was the only one to know how to make a film... Good times and hard work !!!!!

Big defaults in scenarios, acting, sound etc etc !!!! But fun anytime !!!

5DIII RAW and BMPCC RAW. Everything done in After effects and Audition. A pain to deal with RAW files within 48 hours but this was a part of the challenge.

Nope, most of the team was from San Diego except the leader/director who's from LA. They really wanted to do a road trip movie with the whole "extra day". :o

I was the editor, so no opportunity for the Pocket cam this time. :(

Last year I directed a short film called "SAXRA" using only the black magic cinema camera 2.5k and one glass (little to none lighting). Even thought of some difficulties we had I think the bmcc was very helpful.

Hope you like it!

Beautiful Brent. In the beginning I was finding the visuals and the music almost intentionally depressing but as I stuck with it, the young girl rescued me with her redeeming hopefulness.

Hi All,

I recently finished my first 7 minute Short film shot on my new BMCC MFT, I will say that the metabones was a must for this shoot.

Please fell free to throw any tip or advice out there. Tips/ trick for a fast shoot with the 2.5k

Applause also accepted :)

Music video I directed and shot; a work in progress, but here are some frames to show off. Everything is around f/5.6. I used two Yongnuo YN-600 LED lights, and on one or two shots I dragged out a third. I shot the windows first as I was racing against the sun to fill it. All the other shots that appear to be window light, it's actually too dark outside and the shot was primarily lit with the LEDs. Because I'm green like that.

I'd say "no" because this thread (nay, forum) is about Blackmagic cameras, not Canon cameras using Magic Lantern.

Thanks, Donnell. I misspoke about the 11-16, I meant to say Tokina. The Sigma 18-35 is sharper, overall, even wide open at 1.8, and is not as distorted as the Tokina. However, i don't own a Sigma and didn't have one available for the music video.

Wow... gorgeous. Although, I can't help but laugh about the way the girl is dressed in the snow. I mean, in my home state that wouldn't be possible at this time of year. You'd freeze so fast. I know, as I just froze my fingers off for today's ski bum race. All in service of a free ski pass to the mountain this season.

I'm still in awe of the dynamic range of this camera. Would love to get my hands on one to shoot in the winter environment. Got a cool corporate spy short that ends with a ski chase that I've been thinking of doing for a short while. But, nonetheless great seeing so much potential from the camera. Has a very film-like quality to it. Now, if only we see footage from the PL mount version with some real cine glass...

It was 55 degrees outside, so cold but not terribly cold, and she was raised in far colder climate (unlike mysefl).

2. It was shot with a PL mount Camera and Leica Summicron-C Cinema lenses.

Tim, I agree the dynamic range is looking very good. The subject is often in shade yet rendered very clearly, but the sky is a decent blue and the white clouds are not clipped. And when the sun hits part of her face, again nothing is anywhere near being blown out. Very forgiving does have its benefits.

55° F!!! HA! Oh man, that's so warm. Just did a morning shoot today and was so happy it was 19° F.

So nice for the PL mount and Leica lenses! I'm sorry, I didn't read the info on the Vimeo page. Was late and I just watched the video. And now, I want to watch even more footage. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for clarifying the PL info.

Great job Todd!

Any chance we can get more UHD uploads from people? Would love to watch more of that content in higher resolution.

Really good to know. How about below 0° F? That's a test I'd like to see. Winter is coming... Jon Snow.
