Thanks Denny! It was a lot of fun to make. It's a story about three Boston pals, down on their luck, who turn to crime and are redeemed in the tragedy that results. The writer and all the actors were local Boston people. The Pocket and the UM performed flawlessly. We used Xeen Cine lenses, some Canon L series and a Lumix 12-35. Edited in Resolve. We are really happy with how everything came together. Now it's off to the festivals! Let's see how we do!

Thanks for the feedback Joe. We wanted to keep it short and make it a tease without giving away too much of the story. But your comment is helpful!

I've been quite enjoying my Ronin-S with my BMP4k...decided to shoot something so I could practice scoring Ableton and my Novation Launchpad. Thanks to my friend Acey for letting me use one of his songs as well. Gave myself 30min to edit and score.

A quick short with Jane Doe Latex Designer Nina Kate with her new hood during her visit here in Brooklyn.

BMP4k with a rokinon 12mm, Hoya IR Cut, Hollywood Black Magic 1/4 4x4 in a Wooden Camera Zipbox, Ronin-S with Tita Nucleus Nana FF.

I can always count on you for a kind word Rick. Thanks. The film was a blast to make. It really captures the culture of South Boston in the post Whitey Bulger era. The actors are local unlike The Departed. The budget was small, also unlike The Departed. But the acting, look and feel are true to the neighborhood... And the story's not bad either. Hopefully the audience will agree!

as a long time Canon 5D raw (magiclantern) shooter I have decided to switch to Pocket 4K this year.

Couple of my observations:
1. It would be amazing if the developers could add a function that will red-cross the display when not recording (or any more visible information). The shutter button is quite soft and having a finger ready to shoot all the moments you cannot recreate (wedding is full of unexpected moments) I have ended up shooting my shoes couple of times (the camera has been shooting and when I hit record to start recording, it actually stopped).
2. When the SD/Cfast or SSD starts to fill, the camera boot up time slows significantly. No matter if I use interal cards or external SSD. The file system (mac vs exfat) also doesn't seem to make any difference. Any chance to have improvement here? Since the camera is power hungry you have to turn it off a lot.

And couple of opinions:
1. Internal mics are really good.
2. Battery time can be expected (wasn't much better when shooting raw with 5D). Altough boot up time is really bad with cards half full.
3. I find cdng to be easier to playback/color grade then braw (with a really fast hard drives). When playing back cDNG, there is almost no CPU/GPU activity. However if I playback braw Q5, it can be really choppy (my drive array is fast enough).

In the end I am really happy with the results. Thank you Blackmagic

Hi guys and dear developers,

one more thing that would be really helpful to change - could we have a hardstops on ISO change? I mean if I want to change ISO to the lowest setting 100, can we have a stop on 100 and not have the next setting the highest one? I don't believe there is anyone changing to highest setting this way and for a documentary shooting this is quite annoying.

Thank you!

Film: Vindemia
Format: Documentary / Trailer
Length: 49min / 2m49s
Year: 2019
Camera: Blackmagic Pocket Cinema

Windemia (movie content)
A Russian photographer (full member of the Russian Geographical Society), who takes a wet collodion tintype on a format camera in a 19th century vintage technique, goes to one of the poorest regions of Italy to shoot small wineries and local residents. In these places, Pasolini shot his film "The Gospel of Matthew." The film tells the story of ordinary people who found themselves on both sides of the camera lens. Vindemia (lat.) - the harvest of grapes in the Italian and Russian versions of events. Tintype and story / Misha Burlatsky

Another short doc I shot on the BMPCC4K. The short part with the girl and the Dad on the hallway floor was shot on the BMMCC. All in HD Prores 422.

Very well done. My wife has been to Fort St John with her work. I was raised in a smaller town and believe I’d enjoy being there. The quality of the content is so good, you have captured their sincerity and determination wonderfully.

On the technical side, you mentioned you shot it in HD ProRes 422. I hope you use ProRes 422 HQ when you can. Seeing the difference with the BMMCC, makes me more interested in shooting BRAW Q0 for my next project even though I know a ProRes is easier on my iMac. Colour is so important, thank you for reminding me!

Wow. Very powerful. And what a great service to the community.
Technically impressive. Great use of light and camera movement. Beautiful color. Everything in balance. Nice audio. Great editing. I like how and when you moved to reenactments or b roll during the interviews.i also thought those scenes were very well done. You have taken a tough subject and handled it with care. Perhaps the biggest thing is that the film connects directly and emotionally with the audience. Kudos.

First tests with the BMPCC 4k and first ever test on the Ronin S.
Just series of shots around the Coca-Cola Arena in the city walk neighborhood of Dubai. I still need to get around balancing the BMPCC4k on the ronin s. will come up with a video on a cheap solution I found. Hopefully in the near future.
Watch in 4k if you can. The grain is amazing.

Trying to find a test shot on the BMPCC 4K. The shoot involved a car accident, and the camera shot the interior of the vehicle during the crash. I thought it was in this thread, but I can't find it. Anyone remember this?

Very nice. Very "cinematic". Is there anything you wish you did differently? Do feel like you're lacking in cinematic quality in any way? How did you match the drone and pocket footage so closely?

Very well done, Diego. The visual aspects were good. I felt the score in the early going didn’t quite fit and could have been simple and quieter, but was better suited to the story once he opened the box.

Thanks Rick! I agree with you 100% regarding to the music. It didn't quite fit because It wasn't supposed to be there... but, things happen, you know? I wrote the entire score and didn't want to leave that much out (i had already sacrificed some cues... lesson learnt). The only reason I left it there in the end is because this film is part of a bigger project, a feature in a shared universe but set in the late 30s on which the main character is Andres' grandad, Pablo Teruel, and, seeing the bigger picture, it made sense music wise.

Thank you so very much for your input.

Cheers!

Well that’s making more sense. Didn’t realize that was a teaser. The narrative film I’m working on is using a combination of period music and new music created for the film. We’re not involved with that yet, but also being the editor, I’ll have a lot of influence over how we mix the genres. Music and foley breathe life into a film. Hoping BMD’s Resolve team adds their foley library soon so I can work on that.

Not really anything too hugely special. But shot this on the BMPCC 6k, and will be grading it this weekend. Canon 24-105 F4, 200 ISO, 120 SS.

Looks nice. I'm curious which clips were shot with which lens?

Camera throwback... First of two music videos I shot for this artist in the Spring. This one was released recently. It was shot on the original BMPCC on the Ronin S. Codec Prores HQ. Edited/graded in Final Cut X- my last project before moving on to Resolve. Sound issues meant that all the sound recorded live was from the safety shotgun mic I had mounted, rather than the audio equipment you’ll see in frame at one point in the video.

Hey team,

I've always loved the BM cameras and now I have one in the festival circuit.

Shot on the ageing but awesome URSA Mini 4K.

Best,

- Profile: Film Mode
- Format: Blackmagic Raw 12:1 - UHD
- Lens: Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AI-s (speedbooster)
- No ND filter
